How can an NBA player who plays on the outside be such a bad shooter? There are plenty of examples of guys who got into the league and couldn’t shoot but made themselves at least passable shooters to add to their game.

Ben Simmons just doesn’t care? If he put extra time into training and working on his shot you telling me he couldn’t at least become a guy who CAN make an open shot? It’s pathetic, I don’t say this about many pro athletes and their sports but you could walk into any gym in the country and find guys who are better and more confident shooters than Simmons, dude is a disgrace

No NBA player should ever average under 80% at the free throw line. It blows my mind how bad some of these guys are shooting free throws.

Eh some of the big guys have no touch, it’s not what they do and they just don’t have the ability, plus the mental side of it. Simmons is a guard, he should be able to make a jump shot. Hell Magic couldn’t shoot at all when he came into the league, he made himself at least a passable shooter.

you could tell he didnt give a shite when he was at LSU. He was a great instinctive player with his basketball intelligence, but he lacked a shot and the will to improve his shot. It was always going to be about his fire and drive. He could be one of the best ever if he would work on his shot to go along with everything else he does well.

Simmons sucks on the offensive end except for a dunk or layup… Magic was kinda that way when he came into the league… but he developed into a decent three point shooter… It looks like Ben doesn’t even try. And his FT % is horrible.

I lived in Philly and still follow them closely. From all accounts, he shoots a ridiculous amount of shots. So much so that it has hindered his FT shot because he doesn't practice that enough. Almost all insiders and people who watch practice say it's 100% mental.

If you've ever seen him shoot, it's really not THAT bad. He could easily shoot 20-25% in a season from 3...but he knows if he shoots that the crowd will clap and go crazy, practically mocking him. If he makes it then it will be even louder. Lastly, he thinks he's better at attacking (which he is BUT) and dishing so it's a waste if he shoots.

Essentially...he's a mental midget, and collapses

I hate this...that's wrong. Dude set records for Freshmen that likely won't be broken. He played for a horrible coach and everyone else was jealous of him.

If he didn't have fire and was lazy he wouldn't be 1st team all NBA Defense.

He needs to go work with Fred Vinson but even that might not help
He's never been a decent shooter

A healthy Hornsby all year would’ve made a difference on so many levels. When he reinjured the hernia they were done.

I wanna say Ben shot like 66% or thereabouts from the FT line at LSU. His shooting outside the paint was always the biggest question mark

I've watched Ben make a hook shot in the paint with consistency. He's a 6'10" guard and has midgets hanging on his heels for defense. He easily gets to the basket with his handle, why not simply learn a consistent hook shot and Kareem his way inside the paint? You don't have to be conventional, just effective. He's neither.

He just needs to do the Rick Barry granny style free throws and he would be fine. Players are too stubborn to do it though.
