I think Jack Lamabe won the SEC that year?
He didn’t win anything of note. Someone won the conference in 1975 though.

1987 LSU 1 Vandy 0
7 inning game (first of a Saturday double header)
Only scoring was a Joey Belle solo HR
Maybe 500 people there. Ticket was like $5 and we walked in and sat in the gold seats.
Things quickly changed

I remember sitting in foul territory on grass for miss st doubleheader that had overflow crowd
This was my first memory as well in the mid-1980s. I was in the grandstands for the double header. But I remember both Bertman and Polk agreed to let the overflow crowd sit in the foul territory on the field down the baselines. I wish there was a picture of this somewhere. We will never see or experience that again.

about 1950, joe adcock hit a home run over the left field fence, except there were only bamboo bushes growing there, and there were quanset huts where the married student housing apartments would go. The ball was measured by the sports writer bud montet, and it went 479 feet. I was 13 years old, and harry rabenhorst was the coach.

Ben McDonald having a grand slam hit off of him in 1987 in the CWS to send LSU home.

The Warren Morris game. Before the game I wanted to call my dad and let him know I got a ticket. I asked security where a pay phone was. They said there was one in the stadium but it wasn't open to fans yet. I pleaded my case and promised I'd make the call and come right back out. They let me in and as I spoke with my father, I turned to see the Miami players coming right pass me. Here I was in all my LSU gear and they gave me the evil eye as they passed.

As a freshman, going to an empty Old Alex Box, sitting behind Big Red, and his sidekick. My high-school teammate was a walk-on pitcher. Other teammates played for ULM, and Tulane.
Lamabe was trash.

went early and was on 3rd baseline for BP. Ole Miss pitchers all stopped to watch him hit BP. They truly looked scared. He was very intimidating

I dated this girl and her family had a ritual of watching the cws, this was before Bertman arrived at lsu. We went to a few LSU games because a friend of mine pitched for the tigers.
So I guess 1984. When they made the their first trip to cws I remember thinking we are playing with the true bloods of college baseball - Az state, Texas, Stanford, Ok state, Miami etc

Attending Skip Bertman's Baseball Camp at Christmas 1987 and having Boots Garland yell at groups about our running form as we rushed from station to station.

Spring of 75, watching my ole buddy Randall Aldridge play left field and win the SEC Championship. Big Red was giving the umpires an earful starting with the first pitch!!

When cresse drove in the winning run against Stanford in the championship game. I was around 7. I think I remember one of our outfielders robbing someone of a homerun that game too.
