LSU's overall schedule strength was ranked #19 before the season per Phil Steele. USC's was #21. OOC schedules don't exist in a vacuum.

FYI, the SEC had 8 teams with schedules ranked in the top #30, more than any other conference.

Fact is - LSU played THE toughest schedule last year out of the final Top 5. USC's win over Virginia is equivalent to a top SEC team beating South Carolina - it just doesn't mean much - except that it counts in SEC standings.

Fact is that LSU plays cupcakes to maximize revenue for the Athletic department because we can schedule nearly all OOC games at home and they will sell out.

Maximizing revenue is important in order to maintain and improve facilities for football - and other non-revenue producing sports. I enjoy watching LSU be successful in other sports as well as football.

It is also a fact that LSU has tried repeatedly to schedule games with big name schools and been turned down.

sure, but who knows what the terms were. I doubt it was out of fear.

I'd be willing to bet LSU has turned down a few schools as well

From the stories on the rant and linked to the rant over the summer... yes LSU has

For example, this year we supposedly could have had the start of a home and away with Rutgers but we didn't want to travel first... seems pretty credible seeing as Fresno State picked up that game and then whooped up on Rutgers to start their season right

I understand the concern about starting a very green quarterback off on a road game but I still think we should have done it... Rutgers would have been an solid (Virginia level?) opponent to essentially tune up on... and I take note of USC taking a quarterback who had never started to Auburn to start the 03 season with good results

I have no doubt that we would have gone to Rutgers and won, and no matter what Rutgers does the rest of the year, it still would be viewed as a better win than beating a 1-AA team

If USC, LSU, and OU all have the same record then I believe LSU will be left out. USC has Ohio St. and OU played Cincy and Washington. I know UW and Cincy are not tough but much better than Troy, North Texas. Just my opinion.

It's a pretty defensible opinion. Even if some voters reverse themselves and rank LSU over OU or USC in the polls (which I think few do unless they look really bad while winning) the computers would likely keep LSU in the 3rd spot... one third of the poll is still computer based and I think LSU would therefore trail USC and OU in all three components of the BCS

Not sure what this has to do with LSU's weak OOC schedules. But since you brought it up...see below.

Yet for some reason the cupcake PAC-10 keeps beating up on the SEC like a red-headde step-child.

Pwned!

First of it is ESPN, so the numbers probably aren't right. "We are 4-2 against BCS conf. teams in the last 10 years." But we have 5 wins in the last 5 years alone.

Arizona('03), Oregon State('04), Arizona St.('05), Arizona('06), Va Tech('07).

Look at the OOC schedules for the other SEC teams. They all play somebody. We play a bunch of no bodies. This year, I am glad we do though.

At least give our green QB's something to digest until they get into the conference schedule.
