I think I heard on the broadcast Saturday that only 5 teams total have come back to win the regional when losing the first game? Has LSU ever had a team lose the 1st game of a regional and come back to win it?

In the history of the 64 team double elimination regional?

That can’t be right. Surely it’s more than that

Absolutely.

This is one reason. The other being this team was lucky to even make the tournament.

Some team a few years back did it and went all the way to win the national championship

Since LSU hasn't lost game one since the 80s...not likely. That was a shocking stat from game one. Didn't realize it was that long.

I think it was non-hosts who lost the first game, not just anyone who lost the first game. So i think it would still be pretty historic, as we are visitors.

Yes this sounds right. Makes more sense. Agreed.

Have you seen the amount of teams get blown out this tournament and you’re gonna sit there and say LSU didn’t belong in the post season?

No. What I'm saying is LSU's finish in the SEC and going 0-1 in the SEC tournament means they were lucky to get in. It took winning 4 of the last 5 series just to be last 5 in.

Talent-wise this club is easily top 64, but who's selected isn't just about talent.

Un-wad your panties.

Well considering we weren’t even amongst the last 4 in I’d have to say that the committee disagrees with you

First LSU was not one of the last 5 in and second any time you use winning 4 of 5 series to prove your point I think you are officially taking luck out of the equation.

Not to overly dramatic, but this reminds me a little when the tigers came thru the 1989 Texas a/m regional - they had to come thru the losers bracket and had to beat no.9 ranked A&M twice in a double header.
From what I recall the tigers won their first game in that regional, but lost the second.

Talent wise this team is better than Oregon. Not how the season went, but this team right now is better than Oregon.

Fresno St.

And y'all may be right about the "non host" aspect, but that's definitely not what they said on the broadcast a few days ago.

It took that run to finish in a tie for 8th with UGA in the conference standings. They didn't make the tournament. Its what gave LSU the edge in RPI over UGA.

It may bother some of you, but LSU made the tournament by the skin of their teeth. This was readily admitted after losing to the dawgs in the tourney.

I wouldn't have agreed coming into the regional, or even after the opening pair of games. I do now though.
