Family friend’s funeral is in the middle of a non refundable vacation

So my best friend growing up had his dad pass away on Sunday. He was like another dad to me and I got to see him and his wife the day before to say goodbye.
My wife and I have a 3 day vacation in Florida planned on the 9th, 10th and 11th which is not refundable. This is the vacation we were going to take before my wife starts a new job and won’t be able to take a vacation for a long time.
I found out tonight that the burial is set for June 10th in Atlanta.
I am at a loss on how to handle this.
Drive my wife down the 9th and drive back for the funeral and go down on the 10th?
What would you do?

Talk to your best friend in private beforehand and make sure he's doing well, ask him if he needs anything, and explain why you won't be at the funeral. Then a few days after check in on him and make sure he's still doing alright.

Talk with your friend and send flowers. I promise he won't care as much as you think he will.

I understand about the vacation but if he’s still your best friend and you were that close to his dad, be at the funeral

Your best friend?
You would not be asking if you did not already know what to do, get your suit pressed and show your arse up
ETA: dark suit, white shirt, conservative tie, black shoes and belt, also have a handkerchief ready for your friend, his wife, the widow and discreetly pass it to them when needed Monogrammed handkerchief

Funerals are for the living, you said your good byes already. Call you friend and explain the situation, and go on vacation.

Can you just go down and meet her a day late?

He is a medic in the army and served in Afghanistan which has made him pretty emotionless. He lives in Colorado and I rarely get to see him.
Is there ever times that a church service is held a day or days before the burial? His mom told me “he is right now scheduled to be buried on the 10th and she is figuring out the service. I don’t want to be a dick and come out asking if it’s a different day, but it would solve my problem.

Still have opportunities to take vacations the rest of your life.....
Only get the opportunity to say goodby one more time.....
Also, chances you regret missing a vacation vs regret missing a funeral.....

You'd be surprised. Dude might open up.

Usually not, but there is often a wake or visitation a day or two before. Regardless you can go be there for him, there is a shite ton to do in these situations and a helping hand or two is always needed. The key is to find out what needs to be done and act on it rather than just asking what you can do. Could be simple shite like arranging some food and drinks at the wake.

Burn down the funeral home. That should delay the funeral a few days at least.

Send flowers and FaceTime your bud from the beach during the funeral
