Best chainsaw for occasional hunting camp use?

I'm a buy once, cry once guy on things like that. Hate getting a weekend free, test equip before leaving house, and shite dont work for some reason. It would get heavy use on weekends, about 4-6 times a year.

Honestly I just use my dewalt which is battery powered for the lease. Works fine

If it’s just for small branches you could get a pole saw attachment for a Stihl weed eater
And have it for home use and the few times a year you need it for the camp

If the Dewalt DCCS670X1 was out when I purchased my Stihl MS251 I would probably would have went battery for the amount I use a saw. Took my Stihl out this weekend for the first time in almost two years and had to pull on it several times even though I had drained all the 100% gas out when I put it up. But if you don't have a few batteries and a charger with you it could make for a wasted day in the woods.

Well, like you said, buy once, cry once and heavy use on weekends a few times a year.
Sounds like a recipe for a Stihl with about an 18 in. bar. I bought one of them after Katrina and used it a lot clearing trees around my house and for others.
Over the years I've used it to cut trees in CENLA on my now late father-in-laws property and have lent it to friends when they needed a chainsaw. I've only had one issue with it in all that time and it just turned out to be a gunked up carb that I fixed.

battery powered
Been waiting on a sale on a good one.
BTW: I dropped my 18V rigid impact on the concrete from waist level today and my battery crapped out instantly.

Northern Tool refurb - 435 Husky 16" bar - no complaints here. Of course engine and bar size depends on the workload you plan on using it for.

Clearing treetops from roads and shooting lanes = camp fire wood. Have a kobalt pole saw with extra batteries that pays for itself every weekend. Need something that can handle up to 12-18" if needed. Anyone use/have an Echo?

I use the echo pole saw attachment for everything. I have 2 chainsaws that are exactly as you describe. They work when they want to, so I don’t even attempt. Sounds like our use is very similar, so a pole saw is probably all you need.
I have the PAS-230 echo engine head with the pole saw attachment.

My Milwaukee battery powered chainsaw is the tits. If you’re going to be doing a lot of cutting at once, you might want to get an extra battery though.

The correct answer is the one you run once a month and not let sit up 6 months of the year. Use good gas too.

This in a nutshell. You let gas powered tools set up for a long time and the carbs go to hell. I only use non-ethanol gas in my power equipment and start everything I have at least once a month to run and keep the motors lubed well.

True
I go so far as to use that premix in a can for the chainsaws. They get cranked once a month then the fuel is drained snd saw run till it’s dry.
And never ever lend a chainsaw.

I just ordered this EGO 16” referb that comes with a charger and a 5ah battery for under 200 shipped. It’s a refurbished and they have 10% off right now too. I don’t know if a battery operated one will work for ya but thought I’d pass it along.

MAKITA XCU03PT1
I don't have this particular model but I do have a Makita pole saw. I take it with me on my Polaris Ranger when trailing, it's has earned it's keep on my property and on the trails. I've had a Sthil Farm Boss for years 100% reliable but for convenience it's hard to throw rocks at the Makita.

On battery buy into the system so you keep that battery charged and used.
It not so much the tool as it is having a battery that is recharged & charged multiple times versus tool & battery for that one item sitting not working when you need it.
