Per Kendall Rogers:

Rice Baseball has parted ways with Head Coach Matt Bragga after three seasons.

Rice looking for new Baseball Coach

Have to figure Rob Childress would be target #1. Or maybe Lance Berkman?

You would definitely think Rob would be target #1.

Kendall Rogers is reporting that Jake Gautreau, Sean Allen and Rob Childress are names to keep an eye on for the job.

I thought Berkman burned bridges last time.

Not sure. I always see some Rice posters on the CUSA board talk about bringing him in at some capacity. Don't know if there's any heat between the admin and him. I'm not big on bringing former players in to be a Head Coach to be honest.

If I were Berkman I’d count my money and not chase 17 year olds around

I don't know. It's a very attractive job given their history in my opinion.

Bragga going from Tenn Tech to Rice seemed like an odd fit when it happened.

Berkman is currently coaching as an assistant at the University of St Thomas. Clearly he wants to be involved in the game

It certainly can be. They have every thing in place to be competitive. For what Rice is lacking, it’s not in their baseball facilities.

It’s nowhere near a top 10 job

Yeah, but assistant at St. Thomas to head coach at Rice is a tough hill to climb.

Berkman wants the job but I remember last time it was open him saying something about needing a degree to be eligible to get the job. He was like 3 semesters short of graduating when he was drafted, and that was almost 25 years ago now, so I’m not sure if all his credits would even be relevant at this point, nor would he probably be interested in going back to college just to get a job at Rice. Because of that, he said he’d be open to coaching at Texas, despite being a former Rice player.
