Wow. Thank God.

A shame they did Berkman like that when they hired Bragga. I hope they hire him but I can see him telling them to stick it.

A great program has been turned into the dredges of CUSA. Shame on the administration for running it into the ground.

It’s nowhere near a top 10 job

True. Everyone assumed for years it would be David Pierce replacing Graham.

Last time around (as implied by a few) the boosters were split between those wanting Bragga and those wanting Berkman (and Berkman planned to bring in Pettitte in some capacity). Will be interesting to see how things play out. Hard to believe it’s been almost 20 years since 2003.

I always found it amusing when LSU fans would chant, “What comes out of a Chinamen’s arse” when playing Rice in baseball. They’d yell it and answer “RICE” and then giggle amongst each other.

Yet, when I looked around, one would inevitably be sucking on a boudin link, one is eating red beans and rice, the other is whipping up his étouffée, and the other friend is vigorously stirring the roux for his gumbo.

It’s an attractive job. You just have to worry about getting the students academically qualified and admitted.

Also, I’m not sure if they can offer scholarships like Vanderbilt. I don’t see why not?

I thought Berkman burned bridges last time.

He was kind of a jerk about it. After he didn't get the rice job, he resigned from his position as head coach at Second Baptist and basically said he was only coaching there as a resume builder to get the Rice job and he didn't want to be a high school coach.

ETA: found it

I know of a coach in Baton Rouge that I would gladly see go to Rice without so much as a sad thought at seeing him gone.

Bragga going from Tenn Tech to Rice seemed like an odd fit when it happened.

Bragga was an odd hire. He made the tournament maybe 3 or 4 times in 15 seasons at Tenn Tech. Just weird for a school that has relied so much on homegrown talent to hire a guy who spent his whole career in Tennessee.

Yeah, but assistant at St. Thomas to head coach at Rice is a tough hill to climb.

He had the rice job in the bag last time around then the terminally online trans people got him cancelled over some comments made years prior.

Rice is super liberal like every nerd school and he got the axe. I think the bridge is burned

You're right about hiring someone with deep Htown ties: that's how the old man built it. Braga didn't get the pitching.

It certainly could be. They have a huge endowment and they can get around NCAA scholarship limits because practically everyone at Rice is on scholarship.
