Looks like a copperhead to me. He was probably sunning on the concrete.

You’re supposed to grab it by the head, while still alive, and inspect the pupils very closely before determining to kill or not to kill. Atleast according to this board

Looks like a water mocc to me.
Stubby tail/thick kinda triangular body.

Closer pic of the head would be the tell

Looks like a water moccasin. On the off chance it's a water snake, let his gruesome death be a lesson to the rest of his kind not to look so much like a water moccasin.

This is where I am leaning. 100% not a copperhead and the markings aren't right for a water moccasin, but it is close. A pic of the head would verify, moccasins have the "mask of Zorro" over their eyes, while water snakes have vertical bands on their lower jaw.
