quote:

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has issued an executive order banning the enforcement of mask wearing in the state, and will issue fines of up to $1000 to any official who attempts to do so.

The order will come into full effect on June 4th and will apply everywhere, including in schools, with the only exceptions being hospitals and prisons.

As of May 21st the fines can be issued to any government entity that attempts to make people in the state wear a face mask.

Abbot said that “Texans, not government, should decide their best health practices, which is why masks will not be mandated by public school districts or government entities.”

I expect some liberal cities to explode over this, lol...

What about the NCAA making mask mandate and seating compacity for tourney. None of that matter for teams playing in the state?

Sure. Just like they can require shirts and shoes.

Obviously not all will, though, so you as an individual can choose whether or not to patronize said private business.

Year to late, just a lame duck republican taking an easy stance long after any real blowback would happen.

Trump or Desantis 2024, frick Abbott.

Georgia has had the ban the entire time, but we should definitely add the fine. Plenty of mayors would be pissed.

If we lost folks like that, would it be a great loss or a vast improvement on society?

Nobody has ever given a frick where I live in Mississippi.

Correct, same as the “no shirt, no shoes...” mantra.

Until corporations & private business feel the losses they will cater to the fear porn. It’s up to us as individuals to remind them that the majority of the country & our money is not in favor.

SO - if a business calls the cops for your avoidance of their "no mask - no service" order, does that mean you are actually trespassing??

His doors are open.

There is no presumption of privacy.

You've already agreed to not require any of his 'services."

Would trespassing stick??

or Could an officer say - "I see no violation of law here - have a good day."

And, if he didn't, would he be liable for the thousand buck fine??

I go into stores all the time with "masks required" signs, and proceed to purchase stuff - never any refusal. But I don't go to tea rooms and stuff.

I think for some businesses, it's because they're trying to make their employees who have to interact with customers feel safe.

Sure, you could hold the opinion of "well they should just fire employees who would be too scared to come to work", but the reality is, and has been pointed out on this board several times, that many small businesses are having a tough time as it is staying properly staffed.

Therefore, them requiring the mask will help give some sort of security to any apprehensive employees, but at the same time, I'm willing to bet those employees have been instructed not to go overboard and do something stupid like calling the police on a customer who is not wearing one.

Me, personally, I haven't gone out of my way to not patronize an establishment who has a mask required sign. HEB has been having them (I think this week they're removing those signs), but I like getting my grocery shopping done there, so I just throw one on and go about my business.

However, I've got two Pinch-a-Penny pool supply stores near me within about the same distance of my home. One has a mask required sign on its doors with their employees/owner wearing masks. One does not have such a sign. The one without the sign gets my business every time.
