Or is this some fear mongering. Just started taking it this week and it makes me sleepy.

in 2010, Muscle Milk was among a variety of protein supplements tested that contained traces of harmful heavy metals including lead, cadmium, arsenic and mercury.

I think it has that phenylaline in it

How do you even milk a muscle? That should raise some red flags.

2010 was a long time ago. Muscle Milk is a pretty popular brand. I’m sure it would not be so if it was found to be harmful.
A lot of things we eat have traces of lots of things that would kill us in large quantities. I wouldn’t read too much into a study from 11 years ago that may or may not be valid.

"traces" is a very subjective word
without knowing the exact amount, we have no idea how much or little harm could exist
if I had to guess, "trace" amounts would indicate the amounts are far below any cause for concern

Muscle Milk chocolate powder, at three servings, contained all four of the metals, and three metals were found at a level that was among the highest of all 15 products tested. Cadmium levels were 5.6 micrograms -- above the 5-microgram limit. Lead was 13.5 micrograms -- above the USP limit of 10 micrograms. The arsenic averaged 12.2 micrograms -- near the 15-microgram daily USP limit.
Muscle Milk vanilla crème had 12.2 micrograms of lead per three servings -- above the 10-microgram daily limit. It has 11.2 micrograms of arsenic -- close to the 15-microgram daily limit.
From the last report. Obviously, it wouldn't still be sold, right?

These ingredients bother me more.

That report was concerning to say the least. I’ve since switched to Fight Milk. It’s made with 100% pure crowtein

Can you post a link to the study? There are people here with the science pedigree to decipher it.

There are certainly better proteins you can buy but in a pinch I doubt it'll do much harm.
