Good luck finding one under $30k without 100K+ miles on it in this market. Not that many miles for a 4Runner, but if I'm paying that much for a vehicle, I'd prefer something with less miles.

Mazda CX-5 or base CX-9
Just bought a CX-5 for my Wife a month ago, she wanted a Rav4, but I talked her into at least test driving the CX-5, and she loved it way more than the Rav4 and CRV. Went with the Grand Touring trim and it was right around 30K.

To the OP-
You say V6 is fine. Does that mean you will consider going up to a V6 engine if it is an option? Are you looking for a V6 engine or will a turbo four-cylinder suffice?
Do you need it to tow anything beyond a tiny trailer?
Do you care about things like AWD or four-wheel drive?

The VW Atlas is a sharp looking ride, my neighbor has one. They're around $30k-$32k

Hyundai Santa Fe. You can get a mid-level one for ~28k.

Friend of mine bought a Chevrolet Traverse and I was surprised how roomy and nice it was. They Love it FWIW

Here's the deal! I'm thinking of buying a mid-size SUV sometime next year. V6 is fine. 4 ppl comfortably. Decent gas milage. Under 30k. I'd love under 25k. I'm thinking I might have a 10k
Maybe a CRV or Rav4.
If you really want mid sized, you might be able to find a Honda Pilot or Subaru Outback for under $30,000. It will be pretty stripped down though.
Also check to see if the Mazda CX5 is big enough.
You'd honestly have a lot more options if you went with a sedan - Altima, Accord, Camry, Passat, Malibu, K5, Sonata, etc. are all very well equipped for $30K.

The new ones have actually gotten really good. But I don't like that the engine turns off at a red light. As of now there's no way to disable that feature in the car.
Which is weird because you can disable it in the Silverado, Equinox, Blazer, Malibu, Tahoe, Suburban, etc. The damn Traverse is the only Chevy not to have that disable switch.
BTW, the lower end model of the Blazer might be a good buy. I hate that they called a crossover a Blazer, but it's actually a pretty darn good vehicle so long as you aren't expecting anything like the old K5 Blazer.

I'm looking at a new Toyota Venza. Haven't test drove yet but on our list to. You can get a brand new base model for a little over $30k
That's actually not a bad idea. I keep forgetting it exists. Comes standard with all wheel drive and a hybrid engine. The interior is a little small but it's very well finished.

Yes it’s great - we bought the ‘cheap’ model bc that’s the only one that seats 8 - but the nicer models are really nice
I hated that start/stop thing at first but I got used to it

Got a KIA Sportage for the wife last year. I have ridden in back seat. It is surprisingly roomy.
She insisted on AWD. Complete waste. All it does is add weight since she doesn't drive in bad weather anyway.
If it was my car, I would have gone with the 2.0T. Still, it's a nice ride, and we paid $25K even, out the door.

Like others have said I would look at the Mazda CX-5 or CX-9. You could get either one that is a couple of years old fairly well equipped for 25-30k. My favorite thing about them is they handle extremely well.

Yeah I think the Atlas has pretty classic/decent SUV looks for a shitty crossover price.
