They are not. Houses will still be built. Build your home.

Is that from a big box store or local building materials dealer?

I need to replace a decent amount of wood on the exterior of my house. Thinking of replacing it all with 7/8 inch concrete siding. Anyone used that?

Everyone needs to stop building them it will come down. There’s no reason for them to lower the prices If people are buying it.

Hardie artisan siding? Price increases and shortages. Hardie is actually about to stop manufacturing it for an extended period to catch up supply of regular siding. I’m sure others will follow.

Yeah I heard pvc is crazy also. Add that with the long lead times on windows, doors and appliances why would you even attempt to start a house right now

Don’t want to jinx it but prices are ticking lower lately. The futures as well is trading much lower the last few days. Hope the trend continues.

People just need to stop buying into the craziness and let the supply catch up

I am looking at the future months as well. Everyday this week has seen a drop in the later months into next year.

Supply has caught up, don’t get it twisted. There is no shortage of lumber right now. The Home Depot in Kenner had more than I have ever seen before

Lol I came here to post the exact same thing. Went to rent a tool at HD in Kenner and was amazed by the amount of wood. Stacked floor to ceiling inside and taking up a huge portion of the parking lot too.

Spoke to a builder last week who told me that people are starting to cancel their home building projects so that could be an indication that a slowdown is amidst.
This guy builds up to 8 semi to full custom homes a year.

Isn't that just because the futures contracts rolled from May 15th expiration to July 15th? I think the cash market is still pretty strong at the moment.
Posted on 5/17/21 at 10:45 am to DumpsterFire
Cash contract is down. Actually the last few days, all contracts have been down. Don’t know if this is something we will continue to see or if it’s just a bump in the road. Congress has been talking about the need to lift tariffs to help prices fall.

Rates are going to have an impact, so if we see a pretty good rate hike by year’s end, something will give.
If there is one it will be very late in the year but I wouldn't count on it.
Maybe if the fed would stop buying 20-30bn weekly in MBS and Treasuries.
