New proposal to lower Medicare age to 50 (warning - yahoo article)
quote:
Recent research shows that lowering the age limit of Medicare coverage could even be life-saving for some.
Diagnoses of certain cancers are disproportionately higher among people 65 and older, compared to those 64 and younger, according to a recent Stanford University study.
The study’s authors concluded that “many people are delaying their care for financial reasons until they get health insurance through Medicare.”
quote:
More than a quarter of adults approaching retirement have little to no confidence they’ll be able to afford health insurance over the next year.
And 45% have little to no confidence they’ll be able to afford the cost of their health insurance once they retire, according to a 2019 survey from the University of Michigan.
Sounds like they might want to wait until 65 to retire?
quote:
Right now, a 60-year-old with an annual income of $51,000 — which is a little more than four times the poverty level — would have to pay a premium of $4,420 a year for a silver health plan on the Obamacare exchanges, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation.
I don't doubt that. But what job with that level of income doesn't provide at least some employer sponsored health coverage?

Right, but keep in mind, the goal of the article isn't to bridge some mythical gap as they suggest.
This is another step towards single-payer.
Which is the end goal.

People always confuse/manipulate the terms health insurance with healthcare.

And, actually, this isn't even the end goal. "Single payer" itself is just a mechanism to get governmental control over health care in order to make decisions about who gets what care and when.
Anyone who supports it in this environment simply cannot be trusted.

Ignore every other first world country using some form of it. Nah we're far better off letting the insurance companies frick us over and tell us what doctors we can and can't go to

Every other "first world" country who got beat during WWII? Didn't land on the Moon? Didn't win the Cold War through sheer force of will?
Single payer will governmental level control (and DMV level service) to health care - and is being pushed by the same folks (you and your ilk) who don't trust the police (the government's first line of enforcement).

Why would we encourage people to retire early if they can not take care of themselves?

Wow they must have some fricking geniuses in Palo Alto!
And its not "disproportionate" older people have a much higher risk, it would be like saying people who try to climb mount Everest have a disproportionate rate of dying from climbing mount everest from those who don't. That's not even the correct use of the term.

So, you would prefer the government tell you who and when to get treated? and what you can get treated for? The same government that gives some people preferential treatment, because they have darker skin? That would go well.

No system (insurance or government sponsored) will be able to support Americans shitty lifestyle choices that are only getting worse...
If you really want to fix the problem you should be lobbying for lifestyle changes and helping people fix their diets and not worrying about if an insurance company or government program will pay for your diabetes meds.
You’re very naive to think government healthcare won’t be rationed or limited in the US.
Dems will 100% weaponize the healthcare system the same way they’ve weaponized every branch of government they can get their hands on.

Total fear mongering from the right, no actual argument to all the evidence of it working elsewhere so let's just spew hypotheticals and pass them off as facts

Can you please give me an example of a country that had our type of system, then switched to M4A, and ended up saving money?
Because all those countries you cite never really had a private system. They enacted their systems decades and decades ago, before healthcare was a large sector of economy.
I’m not aware of a single nation in the world that has successfully reduced health spending

The Unaffordable Care Act was a failure.
