Man HBO does such a good job setting up these mysteries.
They really nailed the small town feel and dynamics. Even hit on some comedy, wife and I were rolling when they were going through the interviews with the local kids from the party
From The Night Of, to Big Little Lies, The Outsider, The Undoing, hell even going all the way back to True Detective, they really do go out of their way to create an authentic feel and give you everything you need to understand these characters and why they do what they do.
That said, none of those recent series landed the endings particularly well despite the great ride to get there. So holding out hope this one finishes as strong as it has started

Wife didn't like that she didn't really have a PA accent but meh.
Interesting she thought that. There have been a few articles about how difficult the “Delco” accent was for Kate Winslet, but that she pulled it off. That accent is very different than other parts of PA.

The Undoing was just about unwatcheable because of plasti-face Kidman.
I felt like I was watching someone wear a realistic Kidman mask.
She needs to hang it up. Compare that to Winslet in this series--she looks rough, but she's still natural.
The Outsider--forgettable to me.
The rest of those in that list: all excellent. The Night Of in particular, and the 1st season of True Detective.
Through two episodes, Mare is setting up really well.

The Investigation is head and shoulders above all of these when it comes to creating authenticity. Maybe because it’s based on a true story but I haven’t seen many nail the procedural like it did.

Never been a Kate Winslett fan but wholly shite, that woman can act. Everyone else have also been very solid, including the kids. Very believable.
She has been phenomenal so far.
Feel like the writing for Guy Pearce has been really meh. Anyone else feeling that? As if he was supposed to be really wise, witty, charistmatic and its just not there...

I got caught up last night. That was a great episode, and a lot to unpack. I feel bad for Dylan, the dude just becomes a casualty of a lie by Erin.
Next weeks looks just as intense. I'm hooked.

Not sure what the Guy Pearce plot angle is all about yet.
Also, why is the Evan Peters’ character there? I get that Mare could use the extra help and he doesn’t appear to have any of her personal distractions but it seems like there should be more to it.

Prowler and likely the murderer.

too obvious
or at least I hope
and can't be the prowler, since she saw the Prowler when she was leaving his house

I was kidding, alluding to The Undoing.
Prowler has to be Roy.

Please let's not act like Dylan was a good guy! How about not setting up your baby's mamma to get her arse kicked by your nut job GF! Don't do that and maybe Erin is alive!

Because of the other girl whose mom has cancer that they never had any leads on her disappearance. Chief was being pushed to use outside resources.

I'm not saying he's a good guy, he's definitely a piece of shite. He's a 17 year old with a newborn, and kids make mistakes. It doesn't mean he deserved to die.

I agree didn't deserve to get gunned down, but man guys like him agrivate me. Even if I wasn't with her my new GF isn't going to beat the hell out of the mother of my child, even though it appears now that's not the case lol!

Kinda hope the bitch gf blames herself for his death & sticks a gun in her mouth, tbch. I’m sure Mare wouldn’t mind.

Apple doesn't fall far from the tree with her That's for sure. Her fricking dad is a nut job as well. Clearly her behavior is a direct result of how she's been raised. Mare should have his arse locked up!

Yeah he’s a complete douche, poor girl never had a chance.
Also wanted to say it wasn’t my intention to make light of suicide in my previous post. Apologies if I offended anyone.

The first two episodes have been great. Hopefully HBO can finish this one out on par with True Detective S1 style because imo it has the makings of being a great show. Debating on waiting until its done to binge watch or do the weekly thing.

I’m middle of episode of 2 and struggling to stay awake. Hope it picks up
