The irs mailed my refund on April 2nd, still nothing in the mail box.

Because they know you have no options.

They are the ultimate monopoly and have no incentive to do better

Why does anyone still get a check? Now you are depending on another government agency - the USPS.
Direct deposit.
Direct deposit.

Those who can’t do, teach.
Those who can’t teach, go in politics.

Why dont you electronically file and get direct deposit on your refund?
I filed yesterday. IRS accepted it within 1 hour. Deposit should be in my checking account by Monday.

No incentive to improve, the employees get paid the same regardless of the quality of their work, just easier to be a slacker.

No incentive. No profit motive, Just wait until Biden gets done.

Hope for your sake you’re right, but I’m afraid that “accepted” doesn’t mean anything. I filed electronically and IRS accepted it within minutes on 3/9. No deposit 5 weeks later. Check IRS refund tracker - “Your tax refund is still being processed.”

I wonder what happens if I do that to them for their "refund" from me.

If I'm within a few hundred bucks either way I call it a win. I could get closer, but that's more work so it really isn't worth it. Plus, I usually get dividends in the middle of December, and at that point it's too late to adjust withholdings. So I'd have to calculate the estimates and pay those, which again, is more work.

I almost always am within $500 owed, I call that a victory.

what do you know about proper withholding, estimated tax payments and managing your tax bill throughout the year instead of once a year?
not much I’m guessing
BTW if your point about bonuses and commissions was that many people’s income fluctuates, that would generally result in underpayment due to increased income at uneven intervals. Thus the prevailing issue with bonus based income is a tax bill, not a refund
There is nothing at all wrong with a tax bill, that means you are erring on the side of keeping your money with you, not the US treasury, until and if it is called away.

me too, but that creates taxes owed not a refund

Right, but if you owe too much, you can get penalized for that which is why I like to be within a few hundred bucks either way. I always look at it on a high level toward the end of the year.

The accepted means they accepted the return, not necessarily the results of the return. Could still take some time to process.

Anybody not filing electronically has been given bad advice.
