quote:

"Gun violence in this country is an epidemic," Biden said in the Rose Garden to an audience of lawmakers and Americans touched by gun violence. "And it's an international embarrassment." The executive actions -- which Biden repeatedly argued did nothing to impinge on the Second Amendment right to bear arms -- include efforts to restrict weapons known as "ghost guns" that can be built using parts and instructions purchased online.

quote:

As the nation's posture on guns has evolved, Biden has been front-and-center at most every stop along the way for more than three decades, from the triumph of a 10-year ban on assault weapons in 1994 to the disappointment of a failed push for universal background checks in the wake of the 2012 Sandy Hook massacre.

You know it’s coming. Assault Rifle bans. This is just laying the groundwork, but let’s look at some cold hard facts about gun violence and rifles in general, shall we?

Murders by object Statistics from 2019 as a reference .

I realize that in 2021, statistic and facts are inconvenient, but let’s for the sake of argument say people care about facts and truth. There are more murders with blunt objects than there are from rifles in general, much less those deemed to be actual “assault” rifles.

So, what’s the deal here? Where is the fear coming from, and exactly how is doing away with them going to make even a superficial scratch in gun violence in America? I’m really interested to hear from those who believe it will. Please learn us all.

Gun restrictions are as futile as a new southern wall. It's all political hyperbole, hypocrisy and hijinks.

ETA: Oh, my bad, guys. A wall would stop illegal immigration as well as new gun laws stop violent gun crime. Sorry for the mistake in logic.

Don't worry, Joe is going to stop the spread of "ghost guns". Nevermind that "ghost guns" aren't the problem.

Biden is illegitimate and I'm under no requirement to comply with an action (it's not even a law) that violates the US Constitution

IOW: FOAD

These are the same people who increasingly tell you gender roles are entirely social constructs and that even biological sex is up for debate. The same ones who gaslit you on COVID and protests and straight-faced tell you that whiteness is the biggest threat to our society.

They're probably increasingly convinced they don't need fact-based arguments for gun control. I mean - why would they?

Piece of cake.
Just look at Chicago.
Gun-free zones...gun violence solved.

Pretty much. Banning guns that have the S/N removed amounts to nothing whatsoever. It’s already illegal. Does a criminal actually care about following the law though? What is this nonsense?

Not a valid comparison.

Laws are abstract. A wall is a physical barrier. I could easily break 10 laws in 10 minutes, but build a high enough wall and there's no way I'll get on the other side of it.

It's not that it's going to do anything about stopping violence, it's that it gives them a starting point. It's easy to scare people into accepting what they perceive to be a minor action. Once they have that, it's easy to keep pushing incrementally, expanding to the next "minor" thing, and so on and so forth. If they try to take everyone's guns they'll never get it through. But if they keep pushing it incrementally, they'll get there. That's why you don't concede anything to these people, you need to fight them tooth and nail over everything.

There are about 500 per year in a handful of neighborhoods on the south side of Chicago every year. It's like a war zone.

It's good to see old-fashioned, tried-and-true methods of murder like strangulation still making a dent, out there. If I were ever going to kill someone, that's the route I'd take: a good ol', meat-and-potatoes strangulation.

If you had trouble finding ammo before, good luck now.

“assault” rifles

I bet Eugene Stoner, the inventor of the AR-15 over at ArmaLite, is cringing every time he hears "assault rifle". Wishes he'd never named it AR - ArmaLite Rifle
