Penny for your thoughts?

Stan Van Gundy is a piece of shite. If we keep him then its clear, we will lose another superstar.

Both below average present day coaches. Gentry is more likable and relatable on the whole. Personally, I’d much rather grab a bite and a beer with Gentry. I also think he truly loves basketball. I get the sense that basketball wouldn’t make Gundy’s fave 5.
I used to root for Alvin and I honestly felt bad for him due to the Zion injuries and restrictions. I honestly don’t give a shite if Gundy is successful. I’d actually kind of like it if we imploded bad enough for him to get fired after this season so we can get a real coach in here.
I miss Monty. Loomis fricked up badly when be sided with his fellow GM (Dell), over Monty,

Gentry>Stan
Hiring Van Gundy was dumb. Guy's horrible. Worse than his brother Jeff.

When is the GM going to be accountable for his horrendous decisions

So I guess we only blame Van Gundy when things go wrong but don't give him credit for good things.
If Gentry was here we would have never got point Zion.
Not even a month ago the majority wanted to trade NAW and Jax for nothing and was calling Kira a bust. Van Gundy and the staff has done a good job in developing these players in a short time.
This board doesn't understand that the quick turnaround probably affected the pels more than any other team. You bring in a new coach to a already young team adding 2 new starters with a 2 week training camp. Plus add that the guy you was counting on to be your scorer off the bench already checked out before the season started. Do you know how many more games we could have one early on if JJ wasn't so aweful.
The biggest thing that could help this team is getting some solid vets Blood Sport is a step in the right direction.

Here’s where his priorities were immediately after the game. Like. Right after

There’s obviously the outliers, like Stephen Silas in Houston minus Harden, going from a win percentage of .611 to .275. Or Daigneault in OKC minus CP3, .611 to .392. Indiana is another one.
I want to say Lue in LA, Doc Rivers in Philly, and Nash in Brooklyn aren’t all that related to this job, but that’s not all true. Nash is obviously unrelated, but there was obvious interest in Lue, and this board discussed Doc a lot.
But the guys to really focus on are Thibs in New York and Donovan in Chicago. Two proven coaches, two proven winners. New York has gone from .318 to .481 under Thibs, and Chicago .338 to .429 under Donovan. Obviously neither of those records are anything to write home about, but it shows improvement, significant improvement you could argue.
And then there’s us and SVG. From .417 to .431, I don’t think anyone would argue as an overall team we have seen much of a jump. Little perhaps in areas, Zion for example, but not as a team overall.

We lost to the NBA's most talented team, while we were missing 4 of our 8 best players.
This kind of thread is what I expect after that. It's very typical and on-brand for Pels Talk.

We can't just critique the coaching though. I think with the players the Pels have if your goal was to maximize wins this season Gentry or Finch would have been the better coach because pace and space plays to the natural strength of the team.
People are up in arms acting like Van Gundy is being stubborn or stupid and not adapting. He was tasked by Griffin to focus on exactly what he's focusing on. Making this non defensive team play defense. All I know is either Lonzo needs to take an unlikely step up on defense this summer, or the Pels need to trade for a starting caliber player good enough to lead a defense first team. Because without that you're going to get the same results again. And people will bitch and moan about how bad the coaching is when the real problem would be the POBO trying to shove a square peg in a round hole and make the team try to be something it isn't.

To be fair, when Gentry was here we barely had Zion period. And when we did he was thicc and out of shape. Up until the past 2 weeks, the team has never been healthier. It would of been interesting to see what the staff last year could of done with the current roster fully healthy. I am not a Gentry fan but man did he have some shite luck with injuries.

If this is the case, then this was a failure of epic proportions

For me this has nothing to do with last night. This has to do with being one of the most healthy teams up until last week and still being 5-6 games below .500. This roster fully healthy is not a sub .500 team. Plain and simple. Admittedly I think they were playing well right before the injuries. I think they won 4 of the last 5 or something like that. Coincidently that was the time where Zo was out and NAW and Kira were getting some serious minutes. hmmm

That's exactly the case. This is what Griff and SVG have repeatedly said. They want to become a defense first team (after they traded away their best defender) and take time to develop the young players.
You know how sometimes football players would take ballet or do yoga to improve their balance which improves their overall football skills? I think this is what the Van Gundy experiment is for.
Can you make Zion and Ingram 20% better on defense than they would have been otherwise? If not you've lost nothing because the team wasn't expected to win in this time frame anyway. If it works, you're better off in the long term because your core pieces are easier to build around since they are better defenders.
It really is as simple as that IMO. And I do think the team has improved, but they still aren't good yet. The failure isn't another losing season, it's allowing the fans to believe winning is the goal this year. Griff should have shut that down and told people he's trying to do something hard that will pay off long term but may cause pain this season.
