First off, I'm 27.

Every morning nearly, I wake up with bad muscle pain in my back, like I can barely bend over or twist level of pain.

I get knots in the muscles and sometimes have muscles spasms. Its in different places, depending on how I sleep.

It's been going on for about a year now, it mostly subsides throughout the day as I move around (although I always feel a little "sore") but will come back if I sit for any period of time.

I try to drink at least a gallon of water per day, sleep on my back, and have a new Purple mattress so I don't think its my bed, it really happens no matter where I sleep.

I went to a chiropractor awhile back and it was better for 4 days or so but it is back to the same level.

I haven't had any kind of major injury that I know of, any ideas on what could be causing this?

I would suggest getting an MRI to see what’s going on. Maybe your bed sucks? Not enough support?

That sounds like sciatic pain. There are a bunch of stretches you can do that will help loosen it up. I had a very similar issue and stretching a few times per day really helped.

Its been going on maybe 8 months and I've slept in maybe 10 or so different beds with the same results at each.

All of the above. Also between shoulders at times.

Different places at different times depending on how I slept, mid back and lower back is pretty consistent though.

I don't go to the gym or run or anything like that.

Moderately active job, no desk but also not digging ditches. Lots of walking, bending, and lifting, nothing really above 30 pounds usually though.

bite the bullet, get a comprehensive ortho eval--you're way too young to live like that.

Even mundane daily movements can cause injury. You should see a doctor.

Are you overweight? Carrying around extra weight is hard on your back

Sleep on your side and see if it changes

I am according to the BMI chart and I'm positive that doesn't help but it must have some other root cause or 350 pound people wouldn't even be able to walk if they had pain like this

Also I'm pretty young still so its very odd to me. Just kind of started one day and never went away.

As everyone else has said, see a professional because it's not something you want to play around (or have to live) with.

Anecdotally, I also work a mostly-sitting/desk job and had pretty similar widespread back pain (though maybe not quite the severity you have). I've found most of my nagging back aches/pains have improved with mobility/flexibility/core strengthening exercises. Before I had pain, I never really correlated it all.

Hoping you get answers soon and your issues have a fairly easy solution

I had a similar problem years ago when I was under a lot of stress. It resolved once the stress resolved. If you are going through tough times or busier than usual, that might be the culprit or at least a contributor.
