I had what you describe. It was generated from tightness in my hip flexors and iliopsoas. Look at stretches that loosen the hip flexors. I also use a massage ball and do this:

I hope it works out for you. To find the right spot to put the ball, feel the front of your hip and locate the point where the bone goes from up and down to angled up and back. Place the ball halfway between that point and your belly button.
If you feel pressure, almost pain, deep in your abdomen, then you are probably really tight. Lie on the ball for like 60 to 90 seconds. It will slowly release and feel less sharp.

I Googled some hip flexor stretches and did them before I went to bed last night and I would say the pain was only about a 3 this morning compared to the normal 7 or 8.

Your symptoms described fit ankylosing spondylitis to a tee. It is a form of inflammation arthritis. You’ll need to see a rheumatologist.

That's awesome to hear. I went to a chiropractor who helped show me that often the location of the pain is not always the source. Usually something is off somewhere else and it causes pain in a different spot. My hip flexors cause a lot of issues for my back.

I had constant back pain for about 15 years as a result of pulling/tearing something while coughing. Nothing showed on MRI’s or any other type of imaging. Finally went away after sleeping on my side in the fetal position at night. Took a few months.

I get neck/upper back pain between the shoulders daily. Sometimes it tingles and goes numb, sometimes its just extremely tight. When I run sometimes I feel nothing, sometimes i feel shooting pain down either arm. Are your pains similar?

any ideas on what could be causing this?
Take a muscle relaxer every night a few hours before bed along with one alieve. 10 days later you'll be good to go.
You just need time to heal at night.
