We are still a long long way off from EVs becoming mainstream.

Tesla Model 3 is already here.

Nuclear power is the way to go, we are now on the third generation of nuclear power plants such as Westinghouse's AP1000 design.

That can keeps getting kicked down the road with the problems at Vogtle and Sumner just straight up cancelled. SMRs will end up being more realistic.

Tens of millions of homes, businesses etc, are going to have to be wired for 220 volt recepticles.

Not hard at all

Then there is the issue of power transmission lines. Most people don't want thpse ugly huge towers installed in their quaint little neighborhoods but the ENTIRE power-grid will have to be re-wired with the heavier guage wire.

No, power transmission and load is trending down or stabilizing for the most part with energy efficiency and is not expected to rise significantly which has allowed us to get rid of coal plants without as much new generation to replace it. EVs charging will more than likely give us less of an off peak. We can make it work.

All the coal in my region will likely be gone by 2027, no nuke will replace it currently. Maybe more CC generation, so you are right O&G will remain king of power generation even if you don’t use it in your car.

EVs will be become more normal every year, but O&G is not going to be endangered for a long time. The energy industry has a plan to adapt to the needs of EV charging. Well maybe not ERCOT lol.

They are going to need to make serious technological leaps, both in terms of the vehicles themselves and the supporting infrastructure, before I'd consider one.

If you read their press releases carefully, they are excluding their commercial vehicle lineup (pickup trucks) from going "all electric".

Yeah.. wouldn't surprise me.. however I do know GM is requiring their dealerships to make a substantial financial commitment to this transition. I do not recall the details or timing of it all...

Go price insurance for one.

Try and get one repaired after any significant collision or body damage (can take months).

Try and buy parts for one.

Try and restore a salvaged one.

Try and find a local shop willing to work on it.

They aren't ready for prime time, just for people who are willing to put up with all of the above due to their desire for an EV.

I think we should have more of them with on board gas generators.

It takes roughly 1hp to produce 1kw. How many kWh are those battery packs? A 100 Hp IC motor running 20 hours can create a little under 1500 kWh of power. With conversion loss from the generator to charging the battery, and the battery to the motors, it would be more efficient and green to just run the damn thing on the 100 Hp IC motor.

That generator driven charging station in the picture is a model of inefficiency. Converting fuel energy into rotational energy into electrical energy is a very lossy process. Any new gas engine (in a vehicle) today has to meet much stronger emissions standards than the industrial diesel in that generator. EPA is closing the gap, but it’s not there yet. Even if that generator is running “clean” NG or propane, the production of such and loss of efficiency in the energy conversion process, makes it no better than an IC engine in the vehicle. It becomes exponentially environmentally unfriendly when you factor in the battery manuf. and disposal processes.

The laws of physics, no matter how racist, win again.
