Carlos Correa: "We didn't get close at all."
Carlos Correa on James Click's comment that the door is still open: "In terms of a long contract and a big contract, they closed it right away."
Carlos Correa: "They made it every clear to me: we don’t believe in big contracts. We don’t believe in long contracts.”

He wants a Tatis, Lindor deal. He wants $300+ million. If that's what he's demanding, I'm fine letting him try to earn it this season. At this point he's managed to played more than 110 games ONCE in his entire career. You don't commit $300 million dollars and a decade to a guy who hasn't proven he can stay on the field.

It seems set in stone that Crane won't be giving out contracts longer than 6 years. I have no problem with that whatsoever as long as he spends 200 million per year to contend.
I predict one of the three Cubs infielders who are free agents in the offseason is signed for 4 to 6 years to replace Correa.

That’s a shame. Correa is a helluva player

Correa said the Astros offered him 5 years for $125 million.
That's very fair and would have given him a chance to make more money as a free agent at age 31.

As long as we’re willing to spend that money elsewhere I won’t be upset. If it basically goes unspent and we start aggressively cutting payroll/actively getting worse I won’t be happy. I don’t think Crane will do that.
Bryant would make a ton of sense with the 3B/LF flexibility. I do like the idea of Correa motivated in a contract year

5/125 is definitely reasonable. Certainly nothing worth leaving the discussion table

I'll be watching Cubs games closely this season. ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/IconLOL.gif)

Even 5/150 is fair Thats still 30 million a year and puts him back on the market at 31 like Jwho said.

I think they'll be willing to offer:
Bryant: 5 years
Rizzo: 4 years
Baez: 6 years
These are all based on their ages.

I’m sure they’ll go up on the AAV if he has a big season, but I really don’t take issue with Crane not wanting to lock guys up into their mid 30’s. When have those types of deals ever worked out for the team?

What's up you bunch of bitches. Opening Day with a Yankees loss is always a great way to start the season.

Yes
27.5-30/yr for the shorter term
I see that happening
6 at 30 or 7 at 27.5, if he can produce a full season
If not, go get what the market will bring and we’ll pick from that great class of FA SS’s

I think he'll get 8 years or more from somebody with a great season where he shows he can play 150+ games.
If he can't play great and stay healthy, will we even want to sign him at all? It will be fascinating to watch.

I think his odds of playing 150 games are definitely better, but can he produce for that many games?
Will be interesting for sure

I will say this because it's bullshite if anyone else says it's too small of a sample size and doesn't matter.
Correa has been a much better postseason player than any of those Cubs guys. That matters.
