quote:

Chinese officials approved a major overhaul to Hong Kong's electoral system on Tuesday that will change how elected officials are chosen in Hong Kong. The new electoral law establishes near-total control by Beijing in choosing Hong Kong's leaders.

The sweeping changes allow Beijing to vet candidates for Hong Kong's legislative council and election committee, which chooses the region's chief executive. That would guarantee Beijing-aligned majorities in each body.

The vetting committee responsible for selecting candidates will rely on information provided by the police's national security office, effectively blocking known pro-democracy protestors from joining.

Hong Kong has never been an electoral democracy, but under the region's Basic Law — a mini-constitution adopted after the region's return to Chinese rule in 1997 — residents were given the ability to vote for local district councilors and directly elect half of the region's legislators.

The electoral overhaul amounts to Beijing's latest move to enact more control over Hong Kong, a city where pro-democracy protestors took to the streets for months to object to mainland China growing dominance.

Hong Kong is probably my favorite city in the world, and this is just tragic. Freedom world wide is eroding. These Lefties and TDS Liberals do not know what we’re dealing with when it comes to China, and the ones that do are deliberately selling ourselves off to them and making our country more like theirs by the day.

Admittedly, I'm not an expert on Hong Kong-Chinese relations or history, but why would Hong Kong allow China to dictate how they choose leaders?

Expect Biden to bend over and give the Chinese full access after this.

Man, talk about everything going China's way.

Mean orange bad man out of white house.

Demented push over biden in white house. It is being run by a bunch of liberal soy boys who think they are the brightest people in the room but know nothing.

Virus allows them to run around the world as savior for a virus that they created and let loose on the world.

And now because bidens needs to get his depends changed, China took over total control of Hong Kong which is against the agreement when it was given back to them.

So oh my God, China lied! Who would've thunk it.

CCP doing what communists do.

Prior to the Boxer Rebellion, Hong Kong was a colonial outpost of the UK. Essentially an unrecognized official city of trade “operated” as a half assed colony. Post Boxer Rebellion, the UK acquired a 99 year lease of HK. Of course, at the time of the signing of the lease communism nor socialism really existed in the form of an operating government. The terms of the lease required the UK to return HK to “China” in 1999. Fast forward and UK surrenders HK to China, but China recognized the true value of HK maintaining some capatalic autonomy in both its economics and local government. (Overnight it became China’s richest and most valuable possession). Not wanting to kill the goose that laid tye golden egg, CCP tolerated certain things for several years. At times, young citizens of HK protested for autonomy. CCP put it down and the world looked the other way. As Covid began, HK folks ramped up the protests. CCP used Covid as a cover to round up dissidents. Most haven’t been scene since. Now they are taking away its self governing autonomy by mandating that the “approval” of all candidates go through Beijing.

This is very sad and dangerous geo political news.

Where is Biden? Allowing China to have the confucius colleges on our soil; so he probably told his China buds to take Hong Kong electorally while Biden's dog was on the news.

This whole Wu Flu thing sure worked out in China's favor as far as the Hong Kong protests were concerned.

Almost like it was frickin planned...

His Secretary of State Blinkin is busy hobnobbing for them as they tell us they have no respect for our power, that we’re the actual racists and not them, and we’re the truly deplorable ones and not the CCP. Even CNN was calling Blinkin out on this. That meeting in Anchorage two weeks ago couldn’t have gone any worse.

I think the left knows what is happening. They approve of what is happening with China’s ascent coupled with our descent. The embrace of socialism / communism is truly frightening for any liberty loving person. Hong Kong is on the frontlines and they know better than most of what is at stake for themselves and the greater world. If only the world would listen.

Are you kidding? They consider it a role model. Does the name Anita Dunn ring a bell?

One would assume CCP brought this up at the recent meeting with team biden and that they did not receive any push back. As a result of the fall of the iron curtain , we know every action communists governments take is a test of the west’s resolve to push back. They are committed, as part of their manifesto , to spread communism everywhere in the world. They publicize their intent and have done so for over 100 years. The slogan “workers of the world unite” specifically uses the word “world” for a reason. Taiwan is next , then Japan or India (in the disputed area)

If we don’t push back, Russia will do so. You don’t want the Russians pushing back. They have no stomach for diplomacy and don’t like the Chinese (They fell out in the late 60s , early 70s when both were communists governments ).
