Question for combat veterans that actually watch war movies

My family members that saw combat WWII, Korea, and Vietnam never talked about it, but for those of you that served, what is the most realistic combat movie?
Edit to say that all of the above family members NEVER watched any combat movie...would walk out of the room if one came on the. One family member served in all three...man was hard core. Finished out WWII, infantry in Korea, and a gunner on a Huey in Nam. Unreal what he probably saw. He was considered an “ol man” in Nam.

I thought the consensus was Saving Private Ryan?
ETA: Does anyone here have immediate family with a Distinguished Service Cross or Medal of Honor

Probably The Hurt Locker, long periods of boredom followed by short periods of terror.

We brought my grandfather to see Saving Private Ryan in theaters. He walked out and sat in the food court before the landing scene was over.
He was a corpsman on Iwo Jima

The new Joe Rogan podcast with Marcus Luttrell (Lone Survivor) is a hell of a listen. Rogan asked him his favorite war movie... though he never really answered.

This varies largely for various reasons. But if you want real Afghanistan combat experiences watch Restrepo and Hornet’s Nest

My combat experience was limited to Panama and Desert Storm the first was brief and never built that long-term anxiety that many combat veterans have felt, my experiences in DS I didn't really consider combat in the traditional sense and would be a disservice to call real combat. There are no real combat movies about Panama (just Docs AFAIK) and movies about the 1993 war are far more engaging.
That being said when I first was in the military there were some Vietnam vet senior NCOs still around and all of them pointed to Platoon as being incredibly real for them. This could have been due it being a fairly new movie. In any case, it has become what I think of when I think of Vietnam. However, there are so many documentaries (with archival footage and first-person interviews in-country) about that war one need not rely on Hollywood to get a view of the war.

The Outpost (Netflix Movie)
The Hornets Nest (Documentary)
Restrepo (Documentary)
Blackhawk Down is realistic
Saving Private Ryan
Fury....really depicts the essence of a tank crew
Generation Kill (Short Series)
Unrealistic hot garbage
The Hurt Locker

Major Payne was so real , it's like the Damon Wayans must have really been in the Army.

My grandfather was in WWII , father in Vietnam, and I was I was in Desert Storm. I grew up hearing more about WWII. Even now at 49 movies about WWII get to me more than movies about VN.

D Day vets walked out of the theatre during Saving Private Ryan because the D day invasion scene was so realistic they couldn’t handle it

Most of us would probably not want to see a realistic portrayal. It's not something you ever want to relive. A lot of it gets shut out of your mind because some things should never be committed to long term memory. But the worst of all of it can never be portrayed on the screen
The smell. Just the slightest memory makes me want to go wretch.
