I waiting for “we would’ve won the whole thing if Livers hadn’t gotten hurt” and a plethora of random BS excuses as to why they lost to LSU.

The important legal point to take note of is that the Will Wade portions of the tape were not ruled as admissible evidence in the FBI case which then made them off limits for the NCAA.
So it's a situation where people kind of know what was said, but it can't be legally proven in a court of law.
It wasn't included in the trial because Wade never did any work with dawkins and the conversation was not at all related to the 'scheme' in which Dawkins was paying coaches to get them charged.
It's not really because they couldn't prove it or anything, it was just completely separate from what the fbi was trying to do. (This fact seems to be lost on most people who earnestly seem to believe Wade committed some crime and is under fbi investigation or something.)

Have these idiots never heard of the Fab 5!!???
They did NOT come to UM of their own volition!

We would be doing the same thing if situation was reversed.

Irony is Michigan is coached by one of the "Fab 5". That is as dirty as it gets.

wasn't their head coach paid to attend Michigan?

I love this shite. My good friend is a MI alum born and raised in Ann Arbor. He is pissed b/c he swears they will not pay players (esp in football) which is why they can not catch up to OH State. Their heads will explode if they lose to a team in the round of 32 with "paid" players

Absolutely hysterical that the home of Fab 5, the fans of Chris Weber, the team that had to put Banners in a closet, the Alums that had a 30 for 30 made about them are bitching about LSU.
Typical blowhards that elected sexscandal Christine Whitmer and her husbands boat give an Edwards example from 25 years ago. Were they intimidated by any Freudian slip possibilities if they cited Huey Long? Let’s not pretend the Flint, MI water scandal due to the states ethics and ineptitude didn’t happen. Yeah it still hasn’t been resolved and the state is reduced to buying residents bottled water daily. Talk about literally flushing taxpayer money away.
Entitlement Northerners who think they are smarter because....well they’re from the North, lol. I pity them. Having been to A2 a few times I can honestly say it’s no Columbus, OH. The food sucks. McDonalds is about as good as it gets but only if you ask for extra ketchup.
The Michigan campus is like homogeneous skim milk. Zero, absolute 0, imagination. Architectural rubber stamp over and over and over and OVER again. Imagine living in a Legoland with only 3 colors of legos and it snows. It IS the equivalent of Walmart Khakis.
No wonder they are focused on LSU. If I lived there I’d want to focus somewhere else also. Screw those whining wannabes.

Well you’d be mad too if you got caught.

Hi, a little information. The cheating at Michigan began most likely when Bill Frieder replaced Johnny Orr as the basketball coach. The 80ties was a golden age of HS basketball in the State of Michigan before crack, the demise of the US auto industry, and depopulation emptied the urban areas. There were an infinite number of great basketball talents. Ed Martin was a mainstay when Bill Frieder had his little confrontation with Bo when prior to the 1989 tournament he informed Bo he was taking the ASU job. Steve Fisher was made out of the same cloth as Frieder and continued allowing Martin access to the locker room.
I know people who knew Ed Martin. We get in heated arguments because they claim that Ed Martin only cared about the kids and the fact many had nothing. He was just looking out for them. I don't buy it for a second. One Ed Martin was a crook running a gambling ring and two he was putting out money because associating and being in this particular circle gave him some kind of warped self worth. Three he was not doing these kids any good as they were learning it paid to break the rules. Money in a teenagers hands is as ephemeral as water in your hands. Just my opinion on what I saw.
Regardless, I found the entire concept revolting. It was not just the Chris Webber scandal, but the fact that Michigan basketball was built on a illusion perhaps as far back as the Johnny Orr period. Me personally, I love college athletics for the competition first, winning second. The fact that any given team I root for can lose is what makes winning all the more gratifying. Tommy Amaker was not a very good coach. But I rooted for the team because I felt confident nothing in the program was crooked any longer.
Now a few things about recruiting violations. It is practically impossible for the NCAA as they do not have any law enforcement powers. Michigan got caught because Ed Martin got caught by law enforcement, and they figured it out. Plus there were people in the Administration that actually cared. Same thing goes today. Unless an activity gets the attention of law enforcement and the given institution has a will to make amends then you can walk away. We see it every day. Look at North Carolina.
Steve Fisher was more a recruiter then a coach. But he most likely could have played his coaching career out at UM if one Martin had not been caught and two if the UM AD had chosen to turn a blind eye.
I am happy that Michigan got busted and the fact that a program that was in a fertile area of basketball talent was in 15 years of purgatory was worth it. I hate MSU. But I give Tom Izzo grudging respect that for the most part he runs a clean program. There are a couple exceptions. I can't say the same thing about MSU football as Mark Dantonio came from the Tressell tree. If it was not for the reforms a stand out coach like John Beilein could not have happened. I don't think anyone will ever accuse Beilein who cultivated scores of 2 and 3 star players into NBA talents.
Is Juwan Howard crooked? I will never know. What I do know is that in the age of the Stretch 5, Juwan Howard is one of the few coaches known for his specialty in developing post play. Howard extended his NBA career as a player coach and is credited with developing Bam Adebayo into a star. Now everyone is seeing what Howard did with Dickinson. As successful as Michigan is in 2021, it currently has only one serious NBA prospect Franz Wagner. Livers is maybe a late 2nd round selection. As a Michigan fan I have to accept Howard's days at UM are perhaps numbered as he will soon be able to punch his ticket for any NBA gig he wants. If all he is, is just a recruiter, NBA franchises would not be interested. Howard will only stay if he truly loves the college game. I would like to think recruits want to play for Howard because he took a team that was predicted to be 6th or 7th in the Big10 and won it.
That all said I have trepidation as a UM fan as on paper the raw talent is 6th or 7th. So hopefully a little more John Beilein magic will happen where the sum is greater then the parts. Really tough without Livers.

A lot of words there to say nothing at all.

Sometimes a TWITTER response is not adequate for elaborating on the anger and shame some of us feel for what happened to the Michigan basketball program. I thought it useful to elaborate it was not a single person but a corrupt culture that went on for almost two decades, perhaps longer. More important, many of us are not resentful at those who busted the program or those who were too sloppy that the program was busted, but those who embraced it all in the name of winning? There are not enough words to describe my anger. Since people are talking about how some UM fans feel, I just wanted to describe my thoughts sans comparison to any other programs conduct.

Michigan's current players are being paid illegally too. And Izzo's program is right there with them. Every single power 5, (and even most smaller) illegally pay players. Just to varying degrees.

They are absolutely trashing LSU on their boards right now. And they’re trashing TD as a whole too. Said our board format “blows.” Unfortunately, their forum isn’t free, and I’m not paying shite to blast those frickers. I have a lake house up in northern Michigan, just across the bridge to the upper peninsula. It’s beautiful there, and I love it. But, I can’t stand the arrogance of the people. They act like Michigan has never violated any laws. Didn’t they employ a doctor for a long time who was abusing women? And that’s just recently.

I read a little bit of it. The Big 10 showing is in their head. Just like football.

I read about 5 different threads, and it’s all the same. It’s just pure garbage and arrogance.

Because Michigan punished itself for its violations unlike LSU

You have clearly never been to Ann Arbor. Frequently rated as the top college town in America and most educated city in America
