Do the saints have a legitimate deep threat?

I'm assuming Winston will be the guy next season, and I expect Sean to go down field a good bit.

Harris

I’d give Travin Dural another shot

I feel like Jaylen Waddle will fall and the Saints will take him

No way waddle falls that far
Maybe Toney from Florida

But I want that every-position OL Vera-Tucker from USC

Wouldnt mind them signing John Brown. Harris is obviously the guy but never hurts to have more speed and he is fast as hell.

Marquis Goodwin from Philly is another guy id look into. I admittedly dont know how realistic that would be

Winston scares me. But the prospect of having a QB that can stretch the field excites me.

This is the guy I want that we can realistically afford. He’s a very good deep threat when he’s healthy.

100% would rather us draft a DT, DE, LB, or CB before we draft WR

Smokey Brown would be a great addition as the deep threat but he might be way out of our price range. Nelson Agholor got $13 mil per that’s insane so Brown could get something way beyond what we can do. But there are plenty of options of guys who could be the deep threat like Brown, TY Hilton, Marvin Jones, Breshard Perriman and John Ross. Whoever it is would have to take a 1 or 2 year deal for less than $5 mil per though. If the market for Emmanuel Sanders doesn’t develop I’d bring him back even though he’s more slot guy than deep great.

Ross is interesting as hell and probably could get a saints talk "prove it" deal out of him.

Not like he has done anything to warrant a high dollar deal.

Harris, Smith and Callaway can all play outside and run the deep routes.

Thomas, Fowler, Trautman and Humphries are underneath guys. Although, three years ago Thomas used to run more deep routes, so he can be that guy from time to time.

Just because they CAN run deep routes doesn’t mean they can come down with the ball. They have to show that they’re able to break away from coverage and I didn’t see much of that last season.

Wouldn’t be surprised if the Saints added a deep-threat WR in FA with whatever is left over after the dust settles. Should be some guys available for cheap 1 year deals due to the league-wide cap restraint.

Harris is probably the only guy for now, but I hope Payton can mix it up enough to get the other guys including Thomas downfield more so defenses don’t just sit on the slant or short-out.

Edit: As much as I hate to say it, Drew really handicapped Thomas’ route tree the last 2 years. He was doing a lot more down field stuff his rookie year. Drew’s age combined with injuries limited Thomas to be the safety blanket bread and butter which worked until a good defense figured it out...

Well, we didn’t throw the ball more than 5-10 yards down the field at all last year. So that’s not saying much.

We’re coming off a season with a top 5 defense. The offensive output and TOs are what killed us

I wonder if we’ll sign Keith Kirkwood again. He was on a one year deal with the Panthers. 1 rec 13 yds in ‘20.

He shouldn’t command much of a salary
