Send pics to Rick and Marty Lagina so they can link it to the Oak Island mystery.

I’m showing this to an archeologist friend. I’ll let you know what he says.

What material is the rounded thing on the end? Is it a metal blade?

The Nazis loved to collect occult stuff.

That could be something closely related to the Spear of Destiny

Metal blade. Surprisingly sharp. Looks like brass.

Handle is a hard wood, but it is molded to a loose left handed grip.

Whole thing weighs under two pounds. Roughly 22inches long.

Flag topper netted 8k in 2006.

On the northshore, of course it did. Probably a center piece for monthly meetings of some sort.

So whoever it belonged to was gay or else fairly weird.

Looking this morning using google image, it most closely resembles a bakuba ceremonial axe, African.

I think the two piece metal removes that theory. The part missing on the back is key, imo.

I don't know what it is, but it is probably racist.

Frank McLoughlin might know what it is. He used to own Foxhole military surplus in Covington. It's been a few years since I've seen him last. I suppose he is still alive. He knows St. Tammany history.

Or try the Trailhead Museum in Abita or the museum in Madisonville. If they don't know, they'll know someone who does know.

From my archeologist friend

quote:

Looks like an axe. Kinda hard to know it’s origin without observing the context from where it was found. It doesn’t look like anything Native American that I have seen. It doesn’t appear to be a durable design so either ceremonial or someone’s art project. Given that the blade isn’t corroded to shite and that the wood handle is intact it is probably not very old unless it has been kept indoors for most of its existence.

When someone wants to "age" a fake artifact so they can sell it as authentic, they often bury it for a short while, then dig it up. Maybe the person who buried it either forgot about it or passed away. Or it could have been kids doing kid stuff.
