fricking trash. felt like it was written simply because of the commercial success of the first. at no point did i ever feel the characters would fail. and it was written horrifically.

Douglas Adam's must have been in a really bad place when he wrote this one.

Think he said as much and had planned to write another one.

Yeah, this has been my nemesis book. Tried it 4 times and gave up each time. Fifth try I made it all the way through. At times it's enjoyable. But mostly I found it tedious. There are a lot of difficult books that I enjoy. This was not one of them.

Gone Girl. I've not really cared for a number of books, but that was the only one I genuinely hated. Just an entire sob story that reveals a dumb, cheap trick.

English teacher in HS recommended Cold Mountain to me for a book report.

I absolutely hated it. Could not think of a worse book for a 17 year old dude. Got an A, and she admitted after she hated the book too. I think she told me to read it because I was an obnoxious clown at the time

Reading it now, almost stopped when it added unnecessary extra plot points. Told my wife it spends the first 1/4 - 1/3 of the book wasting time to get to the actual story.

I really enjoyed it, thought it was better than the show. It reminded me of Needful Things, which I loved.

One of my all time favorites. I’ve read it at least 5 times. For me, it’s an amazing adventure story

Maybe I’ll pick it up and try again. It’s still on by bookshelf, where it’s been for over 20 years
