On the latest episode of the indispensable "GM Shuffle" podcast, the great Mike Lombardi says that you've got Drew Brees pushing a sled up a hill, proving that he still wants to play". That was a definite sign, Lombardi says and compares Drew to Silvio Dante of "The Sopranos".

He asks if the Saints are going to tell him "no, you can't play here" and wonders what the impact of that will be. He goes on to talk about the never before seen levels of QB uncertainty this offseason.

Or, he could be staying in shape for his new career in front of the camera.

If I am Loomis, I am telling him that he can restructure and play for 1M in 2021, but the first interception by way of under throwing his wide open receiver results in his immediate benching until there is no other option at QB. At that time, it will be a hard decision if he is able to get back under center.

Yeah that's my guess is that if Drew really does want to play more, he lets us release him after the cap deadline and then signs a new cap-friendly deal either here somewhere else.

Makes zero sense though - why would he pass up making 8-figure money for one of the most attractive jobs on the planet (NBC analyst) in order to start all over again somewhere else?

Maybe NBC says give it one more year - Chris Collinsworth was promised one more Super Bowl?

NBC was supposed to have this last SB (back when Drew signed with them) but then NBC swapped with CBS in order to have Olympics cross-promotional opportunities, so now NBC has this next SB.

Al Michaels still has a lot of clout and he maybe said "don't break Chris and I up - we have one last year and then I'll retire and you can launch a new team in 2022/23 season".

So maybe that's why NBC isn't ready for Drew yet and he has a free year.

So he just made a statement based on the video we all saw and nothing else?

That not a scoop. Thats an opinion.

Yea, that's a pretty silly conclusion to come to. It's not that bad for us to say it on this message board, but to actually say that to a national audience is a little ridiculous imo.

I'm ready to hear something straight from Drew's mouth. Either Drew or CSP. Anything else is pretty much just speculative bullshite.

Or maybe he's just staying in shape for the sake of staying in shape? I understand in this day and age that's not as common in the land of the fat people (USA), but it's not unheard of...

This is so stupid.
Absolutely nothing in that video makes me think Drew is coming back.
That was entirely tongue in cheek.
"Drew come back, Drew where are you going?" while pushing the sled down the block...
Seriously?

I feel Drew. There is still a feeling of unfinished business that has been looming since that NFCCG screw job. Each playoff loss has been a result of stupid shite happening. But that window has passed. Brees cannot perform at a level that is required to get us to the top.

I built a prowler sled out of 4x4s and galvanized pipe and pushed it up and down my driveway while gyms were closed ( I live on an acre and a half) as it makes you feel like your heart wants to explode. I’m a year younger than Drew. Maybe Drew just wants to stay in good shape Mike.

How many years in a row can he underperform in the playoffs and we chalk it up to injury.

This year the shoulder, ribs, etc. Last year the thumb. I think he had a knee the year before.

Yeah, maybe he'd play better injury free, but he hasn't made it through a season without missing games in two years. Why would he magically be injury proof at 42?

It's wishful thinking on their part. They don't want to let him go. I think some of them are bigger Brees's fans than Saint's fans.

That video means squat. This is a guy that’s worked out for most of his life to prepare himself for football. It’s in his dna and work ethic which he has shown from day 1 in nola.
