What he does well is the hard part. The rest can be taught in time. The NBA isn’t drafting him for 18/19 year old Cam Thomas. They are drafting him for what he can be at 22-25.

NBADraft.net has him in the 2nd round right now.

I don't think it's a crazy thing to consider.

You mean he’s only good at the most important part of the game?

Pros: can get a shot up at will, gets fouled, makes free throws
Cons: doesn’t make those shots efficiently, literally everything else about basketball

He cant pass, can barely dribble, doesnt rebound, has no clue how to space the court when he doesnt have the ball, low basketball IQ, and my God is he bad at defense. People just assume he’ll work in the NBA because he draws fouls? Is that the only reason?

I doubt he stays not the nature of college basketball anymore

He could go out and get a shite grade though and say what the hell and comeback. You think he's putting up a lot of shots now... he would be chunking them next year.

I’d rather him go. I’m a fan of LSU and want them to do well. College teams with guys like Cam Thomas don’t perform well in the NCAA. When a coach gives an inefficient high recruit full control to shoot whatever shitty shot he wants, it doesnt go well.

I fully believe if we had a junior or senior version of Jalen Cook instead of Cam Thomas this year, we’d be a better team

I doubt he comes back. He is the only one on the team that the NBA should be very high on right now, not because he is NBA ready, but because of his potential and shooting ability.

All of those other things can be taught. Any team that drafts him is drafting him with the understanding it will be a few years before he will contribute in the NBA.

If he’s projected 1st round he needs to go

Unlike so many LSU players in all sports that declare for the draft just to go undrafted

I love Will Wade, but his offense is based around isolation. Cam’s BIGGEST problem is that Smart and Watford are incapable of driving and kicking.

Ask yourself how often Cam has open shots. Yea, he forces a shite ton of bad shots. However A) sometimes his bad shot is better than a Watford running double teamed floater or a Smart 34 foot 3. B) if he only took open shots he’d shoot maybe 3 a game.

I watch a ton of basketball and Cam is a top 5 scorer in the country, hands down. He makes questionable decisions sometimes, his defense sometimes sucks, but the NBA doesn’t care about that. He’s a true Freshman who averages 22 a game. When he’s getting paid millions to play harder and smarter he will learn. His potential is great because he can score on 3 levels.

Is this the part where we trash our players because we want them to come back?

You’re having some hot and ignorant takes today.

Jalen Cook and Cam Thomas not only do not play the same position they are asked to do damn near everything 100% different. I would venture to say we would be a better team with Jalen Cook/Gaines splitting PG duties

I get excited to see a Cam three point attempt when it's coming off a catch and shoot. I think he makes a pretty good percentage of those.

I groan when he attempts the Harden step back three.

Is Cam able to drive and kick? He's got 32 assists in 23 games this season.

He reminds me of Harden a little bit and that is the new NBA. High volume scorer, takes absurd 3s or drives the lane and gets to the line. Doesn't give a frick about defense most of the time.

He will do well in the NBA.
