Phase 2 of Mercedes-Benz Superdome's $450 million renovation is underway, and that includes making way for the new, open spaces in the corners of the stadium at the 200 and 500 levels. Each area will be known as a Super Vomitory, or SuperVom.
quote:
A vomitory is "an entrance piercing the banks of seats of a theater, amphitheater, or stadium," according to Merriam Webster.
At the Superdome these SuperVom areas will allow unobstructed views of the scoreboard and field, a feature that's present at other top-level arenas.
quote:
Seats previously included in the SuperVom areas, which are in the 200-500 levels of the stadium, are affected.
“It’s not like those seats are going away and they’re never coming back and those 4,300 won’t have a spot,” Greg Bensel, the senior vice president of communications for the Saints and the Pelicans, said last month. “They will have a spot. It’s just going to be a process on how we figure that out.”

I understand that vomitory is an architecture term but does the dome really have to call it that? Especially a SuperVom?

Why wouldn't they come up with a better name than vomitory? "Vomitory" when used as an adjective means related to or inducing vomiting. It's technically the correct word since it's being used as a noun. But why not just come up with something less retarded sounding?
New Orleans is already too closely associated with vomiting.

I really don’t see the point of this. Pretty stupid idea.

They should have had these in the 70's and 80's for us fans that put up with the crap teams they put on the field. Those teams truly were vomit inducing.

I was happy to see that they were building much needed vomitories, but I thought that is where you would go if you have eaten too many nachos and hot dogs.

$450 million and we still can't replace the multi colored seats?

Do we HAVE to wear skinny jeans in the SuperVom?

Who Dat Deck. Dome Deck(alliteration might end up slipping in dick though). "Insert Sponsor" Fan Zone(most likely).

Yeah pretty dumb. What is the point? Are people supposed to pile in and stand right there? How horrible would that be. Not to mention we can’t even get 2000 people in the dome but hundreds are supposed to pile in on top of each other?

The point is some corporate people get to stand around with their drinks for 10-15 minutes during the Superbowl in 5 years.

They really missed an opportunity with not having the score be 28-3
