Some of the Things I love about Rock and Roll

1.Slash Playing with Kravitz for Always on the Run
I usually love Slash's playing (some say sloppy) but Slash's solo on that sucked. Kravitz always likes first takes so it stuck.
2.Eddie Van Halen performed the solo to "Beat It" and turned down any royalties just as a favor to Quincy Jones. Rumor has it a case of beer was his payment.
3.Hendrix asked to jam with Cream at one of their shows right as he was coming out. Jimi wailed away on Killing Floor. Clapton was speechless and just watched him play per Baker.
What are yours?

Slash already had the music in mind for a Guns N' Roses song, but because Steven Adler couldn't do the drumming, he brought it to Kravitz instead.
Slash met up with Kravitz for a vodka-fueled songwriting session directly after finishing his European tour. "After the last date, he jumped on the Concorde and flew from London to New York at nine in the morning," Kravitz recalled to Rolling Stone. "He had me get a gallon of vodka and a bag of ice, and we went in the studio and bang, there it was. The two of us wrote and cut the tune. I played drums; he played guitar; then I played my guitar, bass and did the vocals. I brought the horn players in and it was done. Then he got on a plane the next morning and went to LA It was a wild day."

Slash Playing with Kravitz
They went to the same high school together and knew of each other. I remember at the time of the release of the album Lenny mentioning this briefly.

"I was at the American Music Awards. They [Guns N' Roses] won a bunch of awards and [Lenny's 1989 debut album] 'Let Love Rule' had just come out.
"And we saw each other - we were sitting near each other at the awards and... *points finger* It didn't have anything to do with Lenny Kravitz or Guns N' Rose; we were both like, 'Wait a minute. I remember you!'
"And then we talked and like, 'Oh, wow! We both went to school together.' And then we got friendly again, and at the end of 'Use Your Illusion' tour, he took the Concord from London, showed up in New York, went straight to my house, and then we went to [the studio] and cut that song ['Always on the Run'].
The first two Lenny albums are great.

Both with a "rare even for rock and roll" background - Jewish father, black mother and born a little over a year apart.
