Politically, they may not but they have had influence on other things. Certain restaurants weren't allowed because of them but that was 20+ years ago. See any strip clubs around anymore? Not that Alex had much success with the ones that were there before

From this old telephone man’s perspective, Shreveport is a strong contender for armpit of this state. I mean Ferriday is bad and all, but Shreveport could be a major metropolis, but instead it’s a goddamn shithole.

Sugar and Spice, the Oriental on N. Bolton. Can't remember if the adult movie store on Masonic is still open or not

There was that Adult Emporium place by the mall, Idk if its still there. I remember the commercial for it on q93 back in the day.

I wouldn't say Shreveport is the armpit, but I will admit it really has no excuse for not flourishing given its interstate system and proximity to Dallas.

If you like hunting, fishing, golf, hiking, low cost of living and serviceable public schools; Alexandria is a great place to be. 3 hours from anywhere in the state and an airport with minimal wait times that is one connecting flight to any destination. IF you are in the medical field or engineering you can basically pick your place to work. The restaurant and bar scene is lacking for sure but they are there when you need something.

But I get it, shitting on Alexandria is trendy.

I didn't know there was an adult movie place there, learn something new everyday. I thought you were talking about the Adult Emporium that was on Masonic. Went to the Oriental once in the 90's. Yes, it sucked. Never went to Sugar and Spice. Not sure Alex has the talent for a strip club anyway.

As for the Nola Alex debate, the two aren't even comparable, Alex is a big version of all of the little towns surrounding with basically the same culture, and many times alot of go between with the same people. New Orleans is a 'major city'. But I do find it funny when people from Nola stick their nose up at small town La, most people from small town La would be the first to pull you out of a ditch or lend assistance if you needed.

Well stated. The whole North La vs South LA and "THIS city is the shittiest"-"NO! THIS CITY is the shittiest" debates are the worst thing about this site.

Ellick aint that bad. Has some nice qualities. Shitty in some respects.
I don't think it comes even close to New Orleans in terms of nice qualities, but that's my opinion. Still a cool city that has people in it I like.

FTR- New Orleans has many shithole qualities. Probably more than Ellick, but NO is an actual major city, so the scope is completely different. As stated above-Not really comparable.

And I'm guessing the people claiming that NOLA is nothing but ghettos and crime are people who have never been there or only have limited experience there.

frick. Never thought I'd see the day that I'd be defending that shitty city... (not to the detriment of the smaller, shitty city of Alexandria)
