I mean the fact that its small enough where something like TD exists where the majority of people talk about all these places with familiarity just bolsters my personal anecdote that Louisiana is basically one giant city. Maybe thats just because I grew up in the sticks in CenLa and we often went to Alex/Monroe/Shreve/BR/Nola/Laffy because certain things weren't offered locally. I think most people in the small towns in La spend a good deal of time having to travel between the cities few nearest "larger cities" in their life.

OTOH until I went to college, I had been to Dallas many more times than I had been to New Orleans.

I mean, compared to NY,Chicago,or L.A., it's tiny. Even small compared to HOU or ATL, but ask someone in London, Norway, Qatar, Tokyo, Rio, or Lagos if they are familiar with New Orleans and they'll say yes.
It was one of the primary commerce based cities of the Atlantic world for almost 2 centuries (admittedly a shadow of its former self now).
But if we're going by Louisiana standards, NOLA is a fricking metropolis. Alexandria is a nice enough town that is technically a city. And that's fine. Probably preferable for many good people.
I would never live in Orleans Parish, but the suburbs/exurbs that have easy access to it are pretty great.

That is true, I probably should have left Nola off the list for myself as a kid, BR alot but we never had much of a reason to go to Nola except for tourist stuff, BR has alot of the same stuff outside of the tourist stuff as Nola has. But SWLA and NWLA probably goes to houston and Dallas, respectively, more than Nola if I had to guess.

Fun fact: Rapides Parish is named for the whitewater rapids caused by a rock shelf in the Red River at Alexandria. At low water they made the river impassable until they were dynamited in the late 19th century. During the Red River campaign, the river unexpectedly fell, trapping the Union fleet above Alexandria. An army engineer built a temporary dam, allowing the fleet to escape. The remnants of the dam are still visible at low water in the vicinity of where the OK Allen bridge used to be.

Damn. I wish that drawing was accurate Alexandria actually had some nice bluffs like that. If it did, maybe people would make more of an effort to build a couple nice local restaurants overlooking the River.

Idk about bars but there are some good restaurants in ellick especially if you’re into Mexican and azn

Yeah, they aren’t too bad at all. Not sure about the bars, a bunch shut down over the last 10-15 years.

Living in Alexandria is like living in Louisiana without any of the redeeming qualities Louisiana has to offer. I guess being close to Toledo Bend is a plus.

Wrong. Easy to get anywhere in the state. Don’t have to worry about all the BS like in the “bigger cities”.

Sister lives in Laffy, the “culture” isn’t all that.
Can’t disagree about the food part though.
