If you have not watched the Fifteen Million Merits episode of Black Mirror, pause here and go watch it

The episode came out in 2011 and Peloton was founded in 2012.

Many people have mentioned it in a threads, but Peloton is a cult (especially for Breasted Americans)

Seems like this is training

For this

Things to think about

Guess the episode is too old for here.

Black Mirror is so far ahead of it's time though.

Is this supposed to be one of those "make you feel old" threads?

Peloton is simply following the most successful marketing approach going these days. You (the corporation) has to sell your potential customers on your product or service not being just a product or service, but a way of life. Yeti has done it. Traeger is doing it. Apple did it. You market your product(s) as an exclusive club. You get people to buy into it being more than just a bike or a cooler, and you then have people paying $40+ for a 5 gallon bucket, or financing a cooler. Or, $700.00 for some wheels to go on their computer tower.

People will come Ray. And they'll pass over the money without even thinking about it, for it is money they have and peace they lack....

There’s way more episodes of Black Mirror that are closer to current reality than that one.

Peloton is not even close. As mentioned, it’s more of a club/cult than anything else.

The Nosedive episode seems close by as well.

With alll your interactions with people rated instantly on your smartphone and that is your “rating” and allows you do or not do certain things

Fifteen Million Merits would be an improvement from what we have right now. They made the fatties janitors and you could buy porn with your credits.

What we're heading for is closer to the social rating episode.
