There was a segment on NPR this week. I did not realize that 46,000 families were compensated by the British govt for freeing their slaves. The information was logged into the archives and is now available to the public.

Knowing how weatlh usually flows downhill, there's probably quite a few big wigs on that list. If they're spouting progressive bullshite they deserve all the crap that's coming their way.
EDIT: Also, frick NPR.

You are correct sir. In the segment there was a prominent writer in England, who actually has one of the plantations that was handed down, who was mentioned on the show. One of the descendents of his ancestors slaves had contacted him.
Its not just about getting the British govt to now pay the descendents money because others received funding when his grand, grand, grandfather was sold.
They now have a legal document, what if they do a DNA test and find out, they should have been getting a piece of that money that flowed downhill cause granmomma was raped all those years ago and the illegitimate offspring were never compensated????
I know Sarah Hemmings descendents were going after Thomas Jefferson's estate for that very reason.

My Great Great Grandfather died of medical malpractice, so I am told, can I sue the hospital now? My family was poor because of it. Much agony and hardship.

Sally Hemming’s offspring are likely not Thomas Jefferson’s offspring. That was a myth concocted to give Bill Clinton cover for being a colossal dirtbag.

True. Now if you want to talk about Merriweather Lewis, well that is a different story all together......

The cost to free the slaves in 19th century America was paid with blood and treasure.

Yeah, I think the testing established it was a Jefferson, but not Thomas.

Did you think they just gave away their property for free?
