Texas mayor tells residents to fend for themselves during power outage: ‘Only the strong will survive’
quote:
“No one owes you [or] your family anything,” Tim Boyd wrote on Tuesday in a now-deleted Facebook post, according to KTXS and KTAB/KRBC. “I’m sick and tired of people looking for a damn handout!”
Boyd’s tirade, which also demanded that “lazy” residents find their own ways of procuring water and electricity, immediately drew backlash. Later on Tuesday, Boyd announced his resignation and admitted that he could have “used better wording.”

WeTheMedia quote:
People are freezing in their own homes & dying in Texas due to the ridiculous “green energy” agenda of the left and the left is SILENT while Biden plays Nintendo (also who selects Luigi in Mario Kart anyway?)
Your move libs! Because CLEARLY your war against fossil fuels & reliable energy sources is getting people killed

Why do these bots have so much trouble with the quote and link functions.

He already resigned and his wife also lost her job.

I’m sorry but that’s fricked up.

His wife shouldn’t be punished, but he deserves everything coming his way.
What a moron. Probably went to A&M.

I'm about as far right as you can get... that being said, this dude is a fricking dipshit. People looking for "a damn handout"? ... "No one owes you [or] your family anything"??? Really? You mean the power/electrical and municipal operations that we PAY for a service, don't owe us anything?? Get fricked
I'm glad he is getting backlash... frick that dude

Dude was probably drunk when he wrote it

I can see hard arse citizens saying that but the elected mayor?

What a fricking idiot.
His wife being fired is absolutely ridiculous though unless she shared his post or showed support of it.

You can almost sympathize with the guy. How many hours has he been awake addresing this disaster? How many calls was that little (probably under-staffed) City Hall getting from people wanting “the gub’mint” to instantaneously “fix” everything for them?
“Get off your arse, grab your ax, go in the yard and cut some firewood.”
Not PC, but understandable.

quote:
“ Folks God has given us the tools to support ourselves in times like this,” he wrote, claiming that those who expected the city to come to their aid were “sadly a product of a socialist government.”

Go read his whole post. Isn’t wrong. He shouldn’t be fired. But everything is racist now. He just said that during an extreme time, go figure it out for yourself. Calling and bitching at the mayor for not having power isn’t going anything. People are conditioned to blame others and not take responsibility and he called them out. He is right.

Im not sure I like the mayor saying that, but he is right that no one owes you anything. And that includes the government, they are not owed our tax dollars.

I’ve spent time in Colorado City.
This is unsurprising.
ETA: inexcusable, but I’m pretty sure this is just a dude tired of getting calls yelling at him for things completely outside of his control.

Generally Mayors are there to listen to the gripes and moans of those they serve.
Sounds like he was tired of being Mayor.

Did you read his whole post? Probably not. He didn’t cause the power outage. People sitting at home with no food and not trying to keep there family warm and calling the major to bitch are extremely stupid. They deserve to be called out.
He is calling out peoples lack of being prepared and when shite hits the fan calling other people to bitch instead of trying to keep their family alive.
