Now explain to us how they "winterize " the wind turbines. What exactly do they do to winterize it?

Yea im curious as well. Ive seen several people mention that other places that are colder do not have this issue. I tend to believe them as I have never heard of it happening before. Kind of negates the argument if its true...

no one was going to spend the $ to winterize for this rare event.

That's what's laughable about the Twitter comments. "Canada, Norway, Antartica, etc. have working windmills". They get winter weather worse than this all winter, whereas Texas gets this very rarely. Why would they waste money winterizing it every year?

ETA: Same goes for natural gas systems, they too can be geared towards colder temps, but why would you waste all that money for something that rarely every happens?

it looks like turbines in far colder climates have heating elements and water resistant coatings.

I'd be shocked if the turbines currently in use didn't have water resistant (or even proof) costing. So that leaves the heating element. So you need to power that heating element somehow.

I'm beginning to feel bad for AOC. She is just very dumb.

But, she is helping to destroy this country.

Don't know the specifics. Just read an article on the difference of these turbines.

Power would probably be a self contained issues on the unit.

Kind of cool technology, apparently one company is working to use carbon fiber coatings as the heat transfer medium.

So is it the governments fault or not?

She's paid to do the business for her blue team. Same as the politicians on the red team. Neither seem to give a frick about the country as a whole anymore.

Illinois and Iowa were woefully unprepared for hurricane force winds back in that August 10th Drecho.

It’s a rare event. Not worth preparing the whole grid for it, although there are some adjustments that can be easily made. We can all learn something from disasters. Some things are worth doing, some things aren’t.

I’d argue that Texas and the gulf coast gets nasty winter storms almost as often as they get *major* hurricanes. It’s worth keeping the gas flowing to at least a few key plants in scenarios like this. But revamping the whole grid to handle a multi-day long blizzard (which almost never happens even in the upper Midwest) is probably extreme overkill.

Utility providers in Texas are charging a lot for rates now. That should incentivize at least some investment that can keep the power on in winter storms.

isn't TX relatively high in % from renewables?

Literally double the national average, and during low points the majority of power comes from renewables.

Can we get the Dems to start picking football games vs the spread ?

Given their almost certain propensity for being wrong, one could break Vegas betting against their picks.
