Texas Power Grid

With the failure of renewable energy in this polar vortex west Texas main hub power has put a huge load on natural gas. Normal Texas rates are 9cents per kwhr. Rates expected Monday and Tuesday if no relief is found is expected to rise to $4 per kwhr. Some residents power bills for the month of February could be in the thousands if not tens of thousands of dollars. Here’s your warning. I know a lot of Texas folks visit the board so any electrical that isn’t absolutely necessary I would completely unplug. I’m not sure the conditions in the southeast at this time but should know more tomorrow.

Is that only west Texas? Haven’t heard a peep from my power company.

Why would you hear from the power company? Think about it. That’s why LT Gov Patrick is trying to get emergency aid. Yes Houston is expected to be hit similar to west Texas. And as I mentioned I should have more information about the south East power markets tomorrow.
Texas is also considered rolling blackouts so conservation should be used by residents as quickly as possible. Tomorrow you should start hearing about those on you local news outlets in Texas. Natural gas has gone from 3.97 to $377 in the past 2 days in Texas so if you have a natural gas reserve sell it and buy some country for yourself somewhere.

Just went through a blackout in my area. They are performing 15-20 minute rolling blackouts in Texas. Emergency declaration.

Having to run electric for all these pools in Texas to keep the equipment from freezing and bursting is using up a lot of juice right now.

Well, one good thing is: All these dams in Alabama should be producing the hell out of some juice right now.

Yeah I don’t see this happening. Vast majority couldn’t afford it, then what?

Some people won't ever have them.
The areas to drop power are specifically selected in a plan.
If you live near a hospital or nursing home for example, your feeder likely won't be in the plan.

I'm sure Sierra Club backers are thankful for their warm toasty homes this morning. They can thank coal and natural gas powered power plants for that as renewable sources aren't doing a thing currently.
Most of these renewable energy pin heads have no idea how inconsistent and unreliable they are. They see it as simply "let's replace coal and natural gas powered power plants with renewable energy, and we will have just the same amount of mW supplied to the grid."
You can't rely on sunshine and wind to reliably power the grid. Neither of those are consistent, but coal and natural gas can supply the grid at whatever mW is required at any given time.

Lucky you! We’re 3 hrs in w/o power. Supposed to be 45mins-1hr of interrupted service periodically but 3 hrs in is no muy bueno. Thinking of running my fish to my parents house

Why not winterize them instead?

Twitter is going nuts. Everyone pissed it seems.
Blaming Gov. Abbot, green energy, deregulation.

I hope people don’t look at Twitter as a reflection of reality.

This event is going to have far reaching effects on money and politics in Texas.
Wholesale power cost for a couple of days had been $4 to $5 per kilowatt hour. Normally it's 4 cents.
That bill is going to eventually be passed on to the public in some form or fashion.
