Does Edwin watts do any sort of custom fittings? I’m not trying to win the masters or anything. Just want to invest in a nice set of clubs to improve my game

A friend went to him, seeking one specific ball flight attribute. He wanted to lower his ball flight. Beebobeedo sells him Nipon 960 GH stiff (profile is mid high) ultralight shaft(96g) sells him on Pured shafts.

Not sure how long ago this was the flavor of the month shaft but they can be had very cheaply on eBay. As for puring, no “P” stickers or marks denoting Pured so just random inserted shafts.

Says he had to special order all of this (yet had the set “Pured” and built rather quickly).

Fast forward and my friend is hitting ungodly high iron shot after high iron shot. Much higher that his original set up.

I pulled the shafts and re-shafted his irons with KBS 130X (he really needs to find some c-Taper 130 TS shafts.

So in inspecting these shafts, beeboduper had so much lead in the tips of the shafts it was ridiculous.

Now maybe his wild genius building skills allowed him to take a shaft, way off the spectrum of what my guy needed, and by stuffing the tip with lead figured he could change the flex point to lower the ball flight. But it was a terrible result for my friend.

The guy dazzles people with his stories and “Tech” speak. The balls to say he has to order them built, then take them apart to build them properly is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard.

You would be better served going to Edwin Watts or Nevada Bob’s and hit multiple sets and buy what looks, feels and performs best.

This guy gives club “fitting and building” a very bad name.

I will say what I tell anyone that asks these types of questions: if you are going to invest money on your golf game, lessons from a good teacher will serve you better than overpriced, glorified fittings will. Most people will be served quite well with Dynamic Gold S300 shafts at the proper length and lie....period.

The majority of people wouldn’t know Pured from random shafts.

Just my .02.

So is Buddha a poser with a trackman, a con-artist, crook, an opportunist, a legit club builder???

I’ve never met him but I’ve seen many people on here swear by him over the years.

My club fitting experiences have been with CC and Shaun Webb and I’ve always been pleased.

Yes they do, depending on which location determines how knowledgeable the person is though. Most people are “standard” in lies/length etc. just depends on the feel. Most irons made in last 5 years are basically the same as far as distance/forgiveness. It’s really just personal preference.
90% of golfers will get the same value from an iron fitting at Edwin watts as they would at a private fitter like CC or bebu and the end product is cheaper.
Example: Cc wanted to charge me $900 for an epic SZ w/ ventus blue 6x. Bought the same head and shaft for $400 total, just had to shop it a little.
I agree with mizunodude 100%

not sure about distance for irons. Some are turned up 2-4 degrees more than others at the same club.

True, but it seems like most in this generation of clubs in the popular categories (players, game improvement, super game improvement) are similar as last few years back for the clubs in same category.

My 919s compared to my old callaway x-20 is a world of difference though lol. I’ve been working on swing path a lot and pulled the old clubs out to hit into net and at the range just to keep some wear off the gamers.....there’s about a 15 yd difference carry in the 7 irons. Some is shaft but the loft and head design plays a big role. I’ve had two sets between them so I’ve eased into it but yea there’s a big difference in 15 year old irons and new models.

Damn, that makes me want to pull out my 20 year old Cleveland irons from HS. Wonder how they would compare to my now 7 year old Rocketbladez Tour irons.

Eta
Made me go see if I still had the full set. Shot a 78 in regionals senior year with these sumbucks, and that was and is a good score for me. I think TA2s?

Preach.

Love it when a few of my buddies are talking about how they tested some ”tour issue” Blue/white board and “crushed” it. The OEM’s are just baiting these folks to buy “tour issue” when it’s mass manufactured trash. The performance delta can’t be greater than 5% yet the price differences is 4-500%.....oh wait...that’s why.....

Unbelievable that an established retailer would do this.

If you ever had an issue with a head and called Mizuno, I'd imagine that the whole thing would unraveled anyway.

Wouldn't surprise me if he loses his account with Mizuno.

And if he is selling fakes, there could be legal action.

There was a guy here in Houston doing that years ago. I remember the Sherriff's show up with a truck , took his clubs and shut him down.

I mean this just isn't true. I drop like 700-800 RPMs between DG x100 and Project X shafts and they don't really cost any more.

Makes you wonder why he had beef with PXG then, I got an iron fitting from him when he first opened and bought/built through a top 100 club fitter friend for half price, I just wanted my specs, I felt it was worth $150 for that. PXG is the most faked club besides Scotty Cameron stuff. I enjoyed the fitting with him more than I did at CC in Metarie for a driver later down the road, they wanted a mint for a driver. I haven’t purchased from either place. I enjoyed the knowledge from both and felt more comfortable at Buddha’s place because it didn’t seem as pushy.

I haven’t even figured out if I can get away that weekend yet, much less made a Bluejack text/call, work is making my handicap and EBay spending increase lately.

fair enough. All this lead up has me thinking I could hit up Bluejack and GCOH member course in the same week. It's inevitable I'll get out over my skis on this one.

Should clarify: ***driver shafts***

Iron shafts are a whole different animal
