Does Society Use The Mt Rushmore Exercise Incorrectly?

Typically when someone is asked to name their Mt Rushmore for a given topic the results are the four best or four standout examples. However, the four presidents depicted on Mt Rushmore were picked because of their role in preserving the Republic and expanding the territory of the United States. They were not picked because they were the four best presidents up until that time or representations of four unique areas of development for the country. Maybe Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, and Teddy R are the four best examples to represent four distinct periods of growth in the country but the justification seems a bit flat. Hell, Teddy's up there at the request of Calvin Coolidge.
I don't know what the structure should be in the Mt. Rushmore Exercise but the way it is used now seems counter to the origin.

Ironically, Coolidge is on my personal Mt. Rushmore.

I can tell you this much, this thread won’t be in anyone’s Mt Rushmore.

No. Society uses it correctly.

That's probably a pretty big part of being one of the best Presidents, no?

Exactly.
Washington as the father of the country
Jefferson as the author of the Declaration of Independence
Lincoln for preserving the union
Teddy for being the father of the national park system
Newsflash people are fricking stupid

Depends on who you ask around here.

Racist. Should be torn down.

We could definitely use more statues/monuments to Coolidge.
Of course, he wouldn’t want the feds paying for them, but I’d be happy to contribute personally.

I probably am, but I also agree with Boat's observation about people. I personally think the erosion of understanding intent & evolution into it's current state is reflective of what we want the meaning to be.
