How crazy is my co-worker's cutting plan?

I overheard him say this morning he is cutting weight by drinking 10 protein shakes a day.
140 calories each for a total of 1,400 calories.
300 grams of protein a day (He may weigh 200 pounds or so).
14 total carbs.
Is that as dumb as I think it is? He's a weird guy who thinks he knows it all.

Sounds horrible nutritionally. Going to give him some nasty shits too, but that may be an intended feature

Basically he's doing something like the TNation Velocity Diet. Drinking nothing but shakes to lose weight isn't unheard of. But most people can't do it for long. Even the Velocity Diet had to back off a little and allow people to eat one solid meal a day. You can lose weight doing this, but most people rebound because it isn't the type of diet that teaches good, long term eating habits.

That is going to be costing him a new toilet after he wrecks it for days on end. Those things are designed to supplement a healthy diet, not replace it altogether. It does remind me of the old Tommy Lasorda Slim-Fast commercials though. A shake for breakfast, a shake for lunch, and a sensible dinner.

everyone will say yes, but its not really. like mentioned, its just the original velicity diet.
1) caloric deficit- check
2) high protein to prevent muscle loss- check
3) low carbs to lose water weight- check
4) sustainable- NO, possible for about 4-6 weeks max if he eats one solid meal a week.
but frick they have extreme obese people that completely fast for a month or more. Sometimes you just have to say frick it and do it and learn to live the lifestyle after you get the weight off.

His plan is retarded. Dude could eat 1.75 lbs of chicken breast with veggies and be much happier.

honestly after i did the original velocity diet just to do it back in like 2008, i would rather do anything than do it again. Its not as crazy as some make it out to be, liek he is gonna die or something, but i would much much rather do exactly what you said.
