The Turtle Caves - McConnell Relents On Senate Filibuster Stalemate

Hey Mitch, you better hope they were not doing this when they told you they would keep the filibuster:
quote:
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell dropped his demand that Democrats maintain the Senate filibuster — ending an early stalemate in the Senate that prevented party leaders from negotiating a power-sharing agreement.
Late Monday, McConnell said he was ready to move forward after two Democrats signaled they would not vote to end the legislative filibuster, assuring him that it would stay in place.
The minority leader had demanded that the filibuster rule remain in exchange for his cooperation on re-allocating power in the Senate, which is evenly divided for the first time in two decades. The Democrats control the chamber, since Vice President Harris would break any tie.

what a cuck....If we haven't seen in the last few days, say one thing, do another. They won't maintain this. I'm guessing the democrats are smarter than us.

So that dumbass is counting on Manchin to keep his word....this time.

Shouldn't the majority leader be the party not in the white house in a 50-50 senate in the interest of checks and balances?

The constitution explicitly states the opposite.

If anyone ever thought McConnell cared about anything but retaining power I know a Nigerian Prince that can make you millions.

So it sounds like they are working on deal with trimmed down stimulus to only those “more in need”. This means millions of actual tax paying citizens (say those earning between 75-100 individually) will be dropped out of a one time tax rebate (read tax cut) at the behest of repubs..that makes total sense, blocking middle class tax cuts

Your thread title makes no sense.

Mitch is in 5D chess mode and you can’t see it. The greatest Senator is showing off his power.

Yea right they won’t keep their word plus you can’t ever tell about Romney, Collins, etc

I agree. Also think talk of things like Texit will become stronger. Not saying it'll happen, but if the left wants to throw out the Constitution. They can't say states have the right to do what they want to win, and then say they don't when they win. At done point the lever breaks. How it turns out who knows, but so much half the country can take.

This actually makes a hell of a lot of sense; which I guess is exactly why they don’t do it.

I’m not a conspiracy theorist but Monday was Opposite Day in case anyone was wondering.

Idiot McConnell should have gotten rid of the filibuster 4 years ago, but then again, he’s never been about winning

I don't understand this, can you explain it to me like I'm five?
So they got rid of the filibuster??

Not yet, they just got rid of the PROMISE to not dispose of it. People who think writing sh@t on paper somehow solves things are fools anyway

Seems like the last time we had a 50-50 Al Gore was the deciding vote that put taxation on Social Security pay outs.
What a stupid thing. Tax on the returns from being taxed.
Anyway, I now think all the near equal Dem/Republican situations going back decades are all contrived through fake elections. Make America think it is divided in order to control us.

Since control of the Senate is split 50/50 (Heels Up notwithstanding) the majority leader and the minority leader have come together to broker a power - sharing deal.
Originally to get the deal approved Turtle was going to hold out on for a promise from Chuck that they wouldn't blow up the filibuster....that term was dropped by McConnell since Manchin says he won't vote to ditch the filibuster. So now we have a 2001 type agreement in the Senate....until Chuck gets tired of Mitch's bullshite and matches Manchin's number to buy his vote.
