Shanahan returning for his 6th year of college football. You think he would waste the past 5 years not to start this year? 1 year in now at LSU and a new position. I think the Harvard grad gets a lot stronger and knowledge about the position in a full off season.

I think bradford is going to surprise people.

He is really gifted. He just needs to lose that weight.
All 5 starters will probably be gone after this year.

The real question is what will the depth chart look like next year.

Thats the crazy part. In the weight room he supposedly is one if the strongest. It does not seem to translate to the field. He is often beaten by speed

Deculus is actually playing out position. Just does not have the athleticism it takes to be a tackle. He would be better suited at guard.

Hes big and strong but seems to lack strngh compared to size.

Deculus? That guy is a mauler! Criticism of his footwork is legit, but not his strength and violence.

The problem is we don't have the level of OL that it takes to win NCs. We have very good OL, but we need elite OL to win the NCs. Look at Alabama, just about all of their OL go in the first or second round.

We won a national championship in 2019 without any 1st or 2nd round OL's. Lewis and Cushenbery were 3rd round picks and Saadiq Charles was a 4th round pick. Still that was pretty good for LSU. But you can't expect LSU to recruit OL's like bama does. No one, not even Ohio St or Clemson recruits OL's at that level.

still I get your point that OL recruiting has been a weakness for LSU for as long as I can remember and we need to do a lot better there

It’s pretty clear he’s fallen out of favor with the staff wether because he was too busy trying to be woke and ran his mouth too much instead of keeping quiet

I highly doubt that the staff is holding that against him, would be stupid of them if they were..

working hard or maybe it was because he didn’t take his rehab as seriously from his ankle injury which has set him back.

that there seems to be the issue from what people on here been saying. He was injured, is overweight, and out of shape. Still he is going into his sophomore year (had a redshirt year I think) so still has plenty of time to get it together. People shouldn't write him off already

We won a national title with a line that was not as good as the one we bring back next year - at least it was no better. Let’s look position by position:

LT - Charles vs Dare. Dare is better
LG - MaGee vs Ingram. Ingram was about even with MaGee two years ago. He is surely better now.
C - Cush vs Shanahan. Cush was better
RG - Lewis vs Hines. I think Hines is way better than most posters do, but Lewis was elite and better.
RT - Deculus ‘19 vs Deculus ‘21. Obviously we’re better there.

So at three positions we are better and at two we’re worse. Although Shanahan is fairly good, Cush was significantly better.

The feeling on this board after the 2018 season was that our line was going to suck in 2019. I kept posting that it was going to be very good. Dare is going to be one of the best tackles in the nation, and Deculus is solid. Hines is going to be a star; you will see. Ingram is solid, too. We just need Shanahan to get better in his second season at center. Our line is going to be a team strength on a very good team.
