All off-season we were clamoring for more weapons. We get sanders. Move up for trautman in the draft. Another year with cook and Murray and trequan. Calloway is a revelation for us. Add all of those to our current roster: the best RB in football, top 1-3 receiver, and a hall of fame QB.

What I will never understand as long as I am alive is when it’s crunch time, when we need it the most, with everything on the line, we have absolutely no ability whatsoever to move the ball without taysom hill or Deonte Harris. 2/3 of the last playoff games we have literally leaned on both of them, and Harris honestly carried us against Chicago. It is so so hard to wrap your mind around. It’s almost like why have all these weapons if when it comes down to it, they are nowhere to be found outside of hill and Harris?

My best guess is the following: many of those guys are products of our timing/precision based scheme. When playoffs come around, many teams are able to disrupt that timing with physicality, press coverage, and pressure. If one cog in the system fails the whole thing crashes. Harris and hill and Kamara are the exceptions because they can excel outside of the scheme based on a unique skillet and pure athleticism. I simply do not know how else to see it.

This partially explains the Ruiz pick- last year the system crumbled because our interior got exposed, and because of that no one else was able to excel. Part of me wishes we had Justin Jefferson or ceedee lamb, but part of me says would it even matter? If what we ask them to do is solely timing snd scheme based, who cares if Jefferson gets a free release off the line every time? Don’t sanders and Thomas get that now anyway?

Additionally, it feels like Green Bay gets adams the ball no matter what, in every game. We have a far better collection of weapons than they do, so it’s hard to believe that the answer to this is simply “teams are scheming to take our Thomas and Kamara.” Same with Buffalo with diggs and the guys in KC. I just do not know how to explain it.

The loss sucks and I’m not over it. But what I absolutely cannot fathom is the idea that we assembled this unbelievable roster top to bottom with one stud after another, and we absolutely lean on taysom hill and Deonte Harris in the most pivotal moments. That makes me want to retool how we do things offensively. I’m sure a lot of that is attributable to the situation with Brees, but I’m sure we will find out for sure near year.

i think it was a lot of things - we can all agree Drew was never right after the 1st rib injury, then we lose various Olinemen off and on - Peat went out several times (to be expected), but we lost Armstead several times, as well as Easton. losing Murray did not help matters, Kwon going down as well.

lot of dinged up players doing the best they could to go - it was just unlucky breaks.

I think some of our depth just really did not step up and play - and even some starters were largely absent in games.

the motivation to continue to play at a high level starts at the top and gets to the leaders on O and D - and there was failures there.

Murray getting dirty yards was out. Taysom Hill was out.

Drew Brees should have been the emergency QB with all his injuries.

Michael Thomas should have been inactive.

Who got injured against the Bears? Should have been a #2 seed bye week.

The Bucs were more healthy.

Was Drew further injured on his QB sneak setting up the Jameis Winston trick play touchdown?

Saints go up 13 to 10. Winston is excited to dagger his old team.

Drew should have been removed and the team rides the Winston momentum train.

Sean is loyal to Drew and other players and there was the Achilles heel.

Belichick would have made the QB change and not look back.

Two years in a row, injuries play a part.

Should have been about the team but Drew Brees.

Brees knew he should not have finished the game.

I thank him for his many accomplishments.

In wanting to be the city's hero again, like "Casey at the Bat", he struck out.

Why? He was good enough to beat them twice in the regular season

Don't believe Drew had all those injuries for both of those games you refer to.

The answer to all your criticisms is that Drew just couldn’t make the throws anymore without timing.

The next QB obviously won’t be as good as prime Drew but I’m excited to see this offense with a QB that make all the throws again.

My thoughts as well. Could make the same argument about the defense. We talked about making the LB corps better for years and they finally go out and get Kwon and everything is great and then... welp. Another tough break.

EDIT: by thre way do we know for sure that the torn rotator cuff was in his throwing shoulder? Seems like everyone is assuming that, but is it true? I mean I've seen a lot of torn rotator cuffs, I dunno if any of them was throwing a ball at ALL much less 15+ yards

This offense has been held together by duct tape for three years.

The explosive downfield passes were gone.

I hope the Saints retain Winston and we wil see 50 yard passes again. In today’s NFL you have to get cheap touchdowns to win. Green Bay and Kansas City are the best at this and no wonder they were the #1 seeds.

Every team left in the final four got those except the Bucs and they are only there due to the Saints turning the ball over four times.

Thomas was injured, Callaway is a rookie, Smith actually played well, Cook shat the bed.

We were moving the ball well until the Cook fumble. Followed by the miscommunication interception on the next drive.

Not counting penalties, our offense was averaging 5.7 yards per play until the fumble. With penalties (3 penalties resulting in 1st downs), 6.2 yards per play.

We had scored on 4/6 possessions and were on the Tampa 42 with a fresh set of downs, up 7 already.

Even removing Winstons TD we were averaging 5.1 yards per play

One of the bright spots has been Jackrabbit... we bitched about the side of the field across from Latt since the freaking day we drafted him... finally go out and get Janoris and the problem is solved. Way our luck was this year, I'm surprised he wasn't hurt too

The people most involved in pro-player acquisition for the Saints should be held accountable and shipped out of town!

If their is one thing no team can get over it's turnovers. Give the ball back to the opposition 4 times what do you expect. Time of possession -first downs -passing yds.-
rushing yds.-return yds. all virtually the same. We had 4 turnovers on our end of the field the Bucs had 0. We dropped at least 2 potential interceptions. We handed them the game on a fricking silver platter. We beat ourselves.
