Ryan Nielsen will get a new 3-year contract and the added title of assistant head coach with the Saints, per source.

Dan Campbell had the title of asst. head coach before leaving for the Lions. So Nielsen will take on some of the leadership duties associated with that role.

The Saints promoted him and gave him more money, thus he decided to stay.

Good decision. The saints offer him more security than lsu, where he may be let go after one year

Luckily orgeron has been ahead of the game interviewing other candidates throughout this process.

I don’t see how anyone could be mad at the Saints.

Orgeron has completely dropped the ball on the DC hire

To be honest I don’t think he used LSU.

I think he wanted the job. The Saints then decided they couldn’t lose him so used the contract provision and then promoted him to not make it bitter. They didn’t want to lose him.

Maybe he didn’t want to go down with the ship.

But "They are blocking him!/Being petty!/Blah Blah Blah". An employee told them he was looking to leave and they countered with all they could to keep him.

But posters on here will tell you the saints hate LSU because they don’t let coaches they value just leave to coach for O.

that's sarcasm there guy

making fun of the people that think Nielsen is not here because the Saints wouldn't let him go. You don't extend your contract if you felt the employer just totally fricked you over

That is such a dumb and uninformed narrative

Seems pretty clear they wanted to keep Nielsen.

If they were just blocking a move for no reason other than they could, he wouldn't be getting a new contract and a promotion.
