He's also likely still getting into game shape. Hard to give full effort if you're gassed. You can hide and and play in bursts on offense, but you get exposed on D. He is in pretty good shape, but NBA players in 2021 need to be in great shape.

From @ESPNStatsInfo: Zion Williamson's 13-15 (.866) shooting is the highest FG pct in a 30-point game in Pelicans franchise history.

Also, he's the youngest player in the last 35 seasons with at least 30 points on 85% FG or better while also shooting 100% from the line.

Just dropping this in here to see if we can get 3 or 4 more pages outta this thing

Not sure the full reference of that, but if it's in anyway to tonight's round of posts, it's clear my issue with Zion was not on the offensive end

Yeah I think that's the case for all of us

His effort on D tonight was encouraging. I especially liked in the fourth when he took on Fox 1:1 on D and got the stop. It was great to see him step up. Let's see more of it.

Exactly, but Bronc seems to disagree lol. Glad you're pointing out that what I've said is seemingly just obvious shite

Completely agree, very positive performance tonight, encouraging to say the least.

A few lapses defensively for Zion, but it was his best defensive performance in a while. Good to see him trending upwards in that regard

Yep.

The 2 main ones I recall are back to back at 122-115 he didn't box out and then next possession on a P&R from 30 feet out he should have recovered on his man but kinda half assed it and cost us a 2nd straight bucket.

But overall, the effort was there, and that's all I'd ask for.

Encouraging night, for sure. He D'ed up Fox on an iso I think in the 3rd quarter, and played it very well.

Correct. Def not like AD where defense was an expected strength. And even AD took a few years to adjust in the league. He wasnt awesome on Defense right away.

Give Zion time. He is coming along nicely. The OP is retarded.

A little reading comprehension would go a long way

This discussion started prior to tonight's game, this isn't that difficult to follow.

AD was downright terrible on D his first few years in the league

2nd team All Defense in year 3, but you're saying he was "downright terrible" in year 3

About that revisionist history.

Ok, really thinking back to AD initially, his on ball D was probably always pretty good.

It was his help defense that was lacking

Right, and that's understandable, something that comes with reps.

I don't complain about Zion defensively with rotational miscues, again cause that comes with time.

The concern is the lack of effort we often see. And again, it's not like that's a take way out of left field, many on here talk about it, virtually every Pels dude on twitter has talked about it.

Heck, even tonight's good effort has been noted in such a way that it's clear that hasn't been the norm, so I'm still not sure what L I'm supposed to be taking when everything I've said is something that been a concern for me most.

Don't more like tonight, and everything will be fine.

He plays himself into game shape. All these stoppages in the season and even not being able to play much at Duke hurt his conditioning. He got soft and now he’s turning into the Rock. You can tell he’s soft when after the first shift out he looks like he had a shower.

Duke Zion was in great shape. You can tell by the way the jersey fits his body

He's got a similar amount of muscle mass now, but nowhere near as lean

that's some random statistical levels

Zion had a great game last night but i hope the random cherry picking leads to 0 legitimate responses for this thread

Just watched Zion's highlights and one thing I noticed was BI's genuine excitement on the bench every time Zion made a play. He was constantly jumping out of his seat giving fists pumps and flexing. Has nothing to do with Zion's game but I just found it refreshing.
