Going in late May. Gonna spend 1 day brewery hopping. What are the 5 best? Wicked Weed sounded good. Thanks for the tips

I was just up there a couple weeks ago. Wicked Weed Funkatorium is great. Sierra Nevada was closed but hopefully it’ll be open for you.

When you arrive at wherever you plan on staying, take out your phone and go to maps, then type in "breweries" and just hit them all....

Sierra Nevada is its own animal. It’s like the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory of breweries. It is not in downtown Asheville. If it’s open in May I would start there and get in line before it opens. Eat lunch there. The food and outdoor space is excellent. Also, you can do your own self guided tour through the facility if you go up the stairs in the main bar area. At least you could before Covid.
New Belgium is not downtown either. If you go there also hit Wedge across the river.
Some of my favorites are the original Asheville breweries but again these you’ll need to drive to: Pisgah (in Black Mountain) and Highland
Downtown: Burial, Wicked Weed, Funkatorium (Wicked Weed funky and sour beers), Bhramari, Catawba, Hi-Wire and Greenman. That should be more than enough. Be prepared to wait (especially at the ones I listed first). The weather will be really nice and tons of people will be out.

The wife and I went in October 2020. I would say my top 3 would be: DISSOLVR, Bhramari, and Burial.
The wait to get in Wicked Weed was 3-4 hours and in my opinion the food there was better than the beer. Now the Funkatorium seemed cool but we couldn't make it out there.

DSSLVR is the best new game in town.

Can't list out a top 5, because I haven't been to 5 of them, but here are my rankings of the ones I've been to.
1. Burial
2. Bhramari
3. Funkatorium(I'm not crazy about sours though)
4. Sierra Nevada
Skip Sierra Nevada though if you really want to brewery hop. It's a haul from downtown. New Belgium is closer, but I'd also skip it, though I haven't been there to say whether it's worth it or not. SN definitely is NOT worth the drive.

Holy hell I'm going in either April or May and really wanted to hit WW.
Is this also the case on weekdays?

I was just there on a Friday this past November and every brewery had a LONG line when we were leaving around 2. Friday is technically the weekend though.
Was up there in summer of 2019 on a Tuesday and places were crowded, but I don't remember long lines. Covid of course has things a little different.
Get there around lunchtime and it likely won't be a problem. We got to Burial around 11, and ate lunch and had 2 beers each and were out of there by 12:30 in time to hit Bhramari for a beer. When we left there though, things were packed.

nice list
i went several years ago and we hit pretty much every one of them. burial and bhramari were not well known at the time and those along with the funkatorium were my favorites.
everyone recommended wedge but i didn't care for it
the place under farm burger (old world or something like that) had a great vibe with fantastic music. beer was decent i'd say

One World Brewery in the basement below Farm Burger (best burger in Asheville) downtown.

Burial is my favorite brewery anywhere.

If you become ready for a change of pace from beer, go to the wine bar at the Biltmore Winery.

For another change of pace, bens tune up is downtown next to hi wire and brews their own sake. Last time we went there were 8-10 different ones to try out. A couple were really really good. If you are gonna get some to go (they sell it in cans) you’ve got to drink it fast. I waited a couple weeks and it wasn’t good anymore.
