Gun manufacturer Colt, an American legend and Connecticut fixture for nearly 175 years, could come under European ownership in a deal being negotiated with a Czech firearms company.

Another company like Remington. Their products sell themselves if you produce them with quality. In this day in age I don't see how gun companies aren't printing money.

I love CZ products, but I wonder, Would foreign ownership affect Colt's contracts with the government?

I think as long as they are made in the US it would be alright. CZ has CZUSA and already makes a lot of guns here.

Does it affect FNH who currently has contracts for the DoD?

I've been out of the military for a long time. When I was in there, everything was made in the U.S. by U.S. Companies.

CZ is a real company. They make awesome shite. It's sucks colt is being sold. Like someone else said, how is a gun company in 2020 not profiting like a king.

But, if you're selling to a foreign company, the Czechs are about as good as an alternative to the US as any. This is not the Eatern bloc of the 80s or 90s anymore.

Colt without the military connection, however, seem irrelevant. They also charge way too much for their AR products for what you're getting and they don't seem have shook that M16 A1 design from their platforms.

They should be BCM, but they're not. They never found the large, high end AR market like BCM, Daniel Defense, LWRC and others did. I put it on their marketing team more than anything.

They also don't make a good striker fired polymer handgun. With their military Rep, they should be able to be a huge Glock competitor but they're not.

Revolvers and 1911's are cool and all, but they're almost missing out entirely on the CCW market, which is is moving product like crazy.

Prior to the military’s adoption of the Sig m17, the issued sidearm was the Beretta m9 (Itailian).

The M249 SAW is the FMH Minimi from the late 1970's. Beretta M9's in the 1980's. Sig, H&K, Glock, Benelli, AI...all foreign owned and have DOD contracts for small arms. The M1 Abrams uses a licensed version of the Rheinmetall 120 mm L/44.

CZ buying Colt at least means it's going to a company dedicated to firearms. They've owned Dan Wesson for a while now and from what I know they have been pretty faithful to keeping it a quality brand. I think a new Colt Python under the care of CZ would be a much better product than what Colt struggled to re-introduce.

I don’t think Colt really has/ had any government contracts recently. That’s a large part of the reason they went bankrupt. They completely disregarded the civilian market for decades when those government checks were flowing for the M4 Carbine. But then they lost the M4 contract to FN and Colt had nothing left to fall back on because they hadn’t developed a new product in years.

Things had started changing I know, when I EOSed out of The Corps, but nothing had changed yet in my situation, and I never really kept up much after I got out. As a matter of fact, the M-16 A2 had been adopted, but I had never seen one yet at the range.

Normally I'd be pissed, but this may be a good move.
