Yeah population doesn’t matter in this argument, it is the fact that the capital should be free from state interest and politics

That'll just add two more Dem Senators from the Bay Area.

Cut it off at the north bay.

The whole DC statehood issue can quickly and easily be solved, and there is historical precedent:

Let DC be absorbed back into Maryland.

That's exactly what happened in 1847 with the portion of DC that originally came from Virginia.

Perfect solution. DC residents get Senate representation without adding Senators. I have yet to hear this be proposed, although it's the most logical remedy and has precedent.

on its face it makes total sense because those ~ 700k people do not have representation
Nobody in that city is unaware of the situation for the last 200+ years. They can move a few miles if representation is that important to them.

The reason is in bold. They want the two Senators, nothing more.

On this we agree. I’m not for a 51st state being DC...only pointing out the OP was making a poor argument.

To be honest, NY and California should have lost Electors based on the 2020 exodus from those states.

Both states were going to lose EV’s after the Census already, 2020 exodus notwithstanding. So are OH, PA, WI, RI, AL, and MI.

They need the Senators to cement control. Full stop.

They may claim it is so Eleanor Norton Holmes can be a Rep instead of a shadow Rep but no one gives a shite about giving DC a voice. It’s all about two free Senate seats.

Maryland would never allow that. It would immediately shift all power in the state to D.C. instead of Baltimore.
Because DC and Bmore are so different and all...
